WALLFLOWER PRINCESS

THE WALLFLOWER PRINCESS

by emmarie

Once upon a time, in the far off corners of the World, somewhere between the Ancient Cultures and the Lost Continent, were the Isles of the Jaded Seas. And, it was there upon those Isles that the Fates placed the Wallflower Princess under the watchful eyes and loving hands of the Guardians, who were her mother and father. Safe behind the Palace walls, the Fates knew that this slow blooming wallflower, would be nurtured and protected, and kept hid from the greedy Demi-Gods of the World.

But underneathe the Knowing of the Fates, were the Un-Knowings who resided on the UnderCurrents of Life. It was one of the Un-Knowings that blew the Ill-Fated winds that carried one of the Demi-Gods to the fair Isles of the Jaded Seas, and landed him amidst the great Halls of Education. And, it was here that the Wallflower Princess learned her first Lesson of Life.

The rarity of the blooms of the Wallflower Princess was what kept her safely hid in the shadows of the Hall. And it was from the shadows that the Princess could observe the Air Currents about her, yet still remain obscure and unseen by the ever popular Great and Un-Great ones that roamed the Halls. And each day , after the Classes of Life recessed until the Morrow, the Gray Rabbit would scurry her safely back to the Palace, where she would read her books and play with her dolls.

At the tender age of 14, the first of the blooms appeared on the Princess. She was quite unaware of this new development, so it was that this Non-knowing could retain her in the shadows. But the UnderCurrents of Life had just blown her cover by placing the GoldenLight of a Demi-God in her path. And it was the Ill-Fated winds that blew the delicate scent of her rare bloom up the nose of the Golden Demi-God. His GoldenLight flared bright as the aroma tickled his senses. As his sparking eyes searched the Halls for the source of this scented delicacy, the Ill-Fated winds twisted about and slapped the Princess in the face with her own Knowing. Shocked out of the shadows, the Princess stood within a crowd, not able to see anything but the brilliance of the GoldLight roaming the Halls ahead of her. Then the Light faded around the corner, leaving her filled with a warm glow.

Soon the Gray Rabbit re-appeared and quickly hopped the Princess back to the Palace. As the day ended, the Princess left her books and dolls to sit untouched in her room as she stood before the mirror to examine this new essence of Self. She could not rid her mind of the Curiosity about the GoldLight, or from the new glow from within her Self. And, as she snuggled in to rest for the Morrow, imagined thoughts filtered thru her sleepy mind.

Too quickly did she ready herself for the Halls. Too daringly did she slip on the little black shorts and black shirt, adding a borrowed silken scarf to tie about her slender waist. The Knowing and ever watchful eye of the Guardian Mother did not allow the Princess to slip away without a few guarded questions. A quick answer concerning the heat of the tropical day and a touch of color for fashion sense seemed to hold her Guardian at bay as the Princess quickly darted out the Palace gates to hop upon the Rabbit.

Absentmindedly, the Princess roamed the Halls behind a familiar crowd from the shadows. her pretended attention to the morning's gossip did not go unnoticed by her friends. She was unaware of their teasings as they saw who had caught the Princess's attention. Giggles, as well as warnings, seemed to drift into the Princess's ear, yet left unheard, as her mind and heart were too entangled with the Goldenboy's returned enrapt gaze.
