Moonlight crept through the thick curtains, illuminating a pair of lovers tangled in soft blue sheets. The dim glow radiated on the girls silver hair, creating a halo of starlight that tumbled over her snow-pale flesh. Her partner had curved his body against her back; his gorgeous face nestled into her hair as he dreamt to the fragrance of her shampoo. He had snaked his muscular arm over hers, entangling their fingers in unspoken comfort as they drifted off to sleep. Setos azure eyes snapped open to some unknown stimuli. Jolting to an upright position, he unknowingly stirred his lover from her peaceful slumber. Kira awoke to his back, his cinnamon hair mussed from rest and sex. She traced the outline of his powerful frame in the faint moonlight, her deep cerulean gaze drifting to where the blankets clung to his hips. Contemplating, Seto sat motionlessly for long minutes as Kira admired his beautiful physique. Growing tired of simple appreciation; she leaned into his back, enjoying the strong feel of it as her arms cradled his waist. Is something wrong, Seto? Hmm? he reacted to the touch. He relished in the supple caress of her naked body, her soft breasts pressing against him. Its nothing. Kira outlined his shoulder blade with gentle kisses, knowing full well he was lying. Tell me. Im going to miss this, Seto replied in the honest tone he used only with her and Mokuba, and even then only sparingly. Seto she didnt even want to comprehend his words. Not when they could enjoy their last moments together. I tried so hard these past years to stay in Domino, he draped his hand over hers. But I cant hold it off any longer. I have to go to America, Kira. The KaibaLand USA project will only digress without me. I know how important your dream is to you, Seto, Kira replied as loudly as she could without breaking into tears. She hated how emotional she could get, especially in moments like these. I just dont think Ill be able to stand life without you. Kira Seto turned to his love, kissing her tenderly. I thought you were coming to me after you graduate. He had already finished high school, truth be told he could have left far earlier than he did. I am, she brushed away the tears swelling in her sapphire eyes. I just it seems so far away, even if I am a senior. He said nothing, but gathered her into his arms. Contradicting his behavior, he too wondered how he would survive the separation. How could he exist without being able to see his reflection in her exquisite eyes, like he was now? Maybe I could leave sooner, Kira reasoned. I turn eighteen in February, then Ill be old enough to Seto silenced her with another kiss, you know better than that, Kira. You need to graduate from high school. I know, but I she buried her face into her hands, battling furiously with the tears threatening to overwhelm her. Let me show you something he dug through the pile of clothing discarded on his bedroom floor. Retrieving the locket that almost never left his neck, he snapped it open before her. To the left of the picture of Mokuba, was a bust-shot of Kira. Anzu had taken it the year Kira moved to Domino, slightly before her Karaoke Duel with Mou Hitori no Yuugi. She was smiling sweetly to the camera, the black dress beneath her jacket exaggerating the fairness of her skin. Kira wondered how Seto had managed to get a hold of it, since Anzu had often commented that it was one of her favorites. That was the one thing those two had ever agreed on, she realized: which snapshot she looked best in. I always have the two most important people of my life right here with me, he whispered as he laced his arm about her shoulders. So I know that we will never really be apart. Kira cradled her knees to her chest as the memory faded before her eyes, her uncombed hair spilling over her sagging shoulders. A white T-shirt and long khaki shorts hung loosely on her three-times-smaller frame, looking like a tablecloth draped over an obviously bogus ghost. Shiro had climbed on top of her mattress with her, despite the bad back hed developed. Her loyal companion occasionally pawed at her leg for attention, but never managed to elicit a response. Her cell phone suddenly started bouncing about her nightstand. Nearly knocking over her Blue Eyes Toon Dragon plush toy as it rang its alarm to a popular love song. Lashing it to her ear, Kira gabbed excitedly into the receiver, Seto? Is that you? No, sorry Kira-chan, replied a female voice. Its Anzu. Oh, Kira drooped her head. Hi. Im outside your house right now. I tried ringing the doorbell, but no one answered. Sorry, I was thinking. Can I come in? Sure Ill be down in a bit. Oh, sweetie! Anzu exclaimed as Kira ushered her inside. You look awful! Kira responded to her empathetic embrace by burying her face in her shoulder. She didnt cry for very long. Tears had their limits, and she was running dry. Where are your parents? Anzu inquired as she was led into the kitchen. Out of town, was her unmotivated answer. Her hands shook violently as she attempted to prepare Jasmine tea: it had become a ritual practiced whenever visiting each others homes. Let me do that, the brunette volunteered. Kira retreated to the table, absently stroking Shiros fur when he wandered in. Kira wouldve smiled as she watched Anzu fly about the kitchen, knowing the silver-haired girls house like her own. The two of them had become astonishingly close. Finding herself more and more considering Anzu as her best friend, Kira immediately fell guilty to Shiros playful brown eyes. This, in turn, made her even more depressed than she was before. Tears were burning in her tired eyes as Anzu presented her a steaming cup. Thank you, her voice cracked on the first syllable. Its not a problem, she grinned as she took her place across the table. Has he called? Anzu ventured after a rough five minutes of quiet sips. There was no question as to he was. Shaking her head, Kira replied, Mokuba did, though. He stayed on just long enough to tell me they arrived in America safely, but then he had to go Im sure hell call soon. I I told him I loved him, Kira admitted through trembling lips. Before he left, I whispered it to him. Wed never said anything like that before What did he say? He didnt say anything. He just walked away. Her busting into tears followed her statement. Anzu abandoned her tea to massage her friends back while she wailed. What if I scared him off? her words hitched as she gasped for air. What if he doesnt want me anymore? What if he leaves me? What if he is screwing some American girl right now? Anzu didnt try to calm her hysterics, nor inform her that she was being irrational. Sometimes it was better to just let these things out. Besides, Anzu doubted she would be able to get a word in until Kira stopped hyperventilating. But he is serious about your relationship, the brunette finally reminded her. He even met your parents, didnt he? Yeah, she rubbed her burning eyes. They were exasperated that I found a rich boyfriend. Ever since I let them down they think the only thing Im capable of is becoming a bride. What do you mean by that? Its a long story. Im listening. Kira sighed, My mom always wanted to be an idol singer. Really? Pictures of the ever-timid Ryuushou Kaede fluttered through Anzus mind. Thats the last thing I expected. Shes so well, you know, a mom. She gave it up when she met my dad, Kira explained. Becoming a housewife changed her a lot. I see she inhaled to take in the new information before asking, so, how did you let them down? When I was born, mom had her heart set on seeing her dreams live through me. She addicted my dad to the idea, and they did everything in their power to turn me into a star. Sounds very stressful. It was. I hated every minute of it. That didnt surprise Anzu. Kira was so shy she couldnt even read before the class without stuttering and having her face turn all shades of crimson. How did her parents expect her to pursue such an outgoing career? Wait a minute, thats how you got so good at Dance Dance Revolution, isnt it? And Karaoke too? Kira nodded solemnly, I had dancing and singing lessons, among others. So what happened? It was a couple years ago. I had a really lucky break and was invited to an important audition. I froze. I just couldnt do it. I couldve mended the damage. I couldve continued with my lessons, but I refused to. I saw my failure as a great excuse to get out. My parents were angrier than theyd ever been with me. She took deep, soothing gulps of air to keep her voice from hitching again. That was when my condition started, and my parents let the idea of my stardom go. I couldnt fulfill it even if I wanted to. OhI see. I thought it was some weird occurrence that uprooted from my anxiety, but it wasnt. Well, youre all better now. Arent you? Why havent your parents tried to make you take up lessons again? No, they know I never wanted to be a singer. I guess they realized I have to make my own choices. What do you want to do? I dont know, she made a noise that was a mixture of a laugh and a sob. I just dont know. Thats why Ill never be a true duelist, like Jounouchi-kun and Yuugi-kun are always talking about. I just dont have any ambition. Anzu did the only thing she could think of: she hugged Kira tightly. After reminding her that she would always have her friends, Anzu was able to perk things up when she formulated a new scheme. Hey! Ive got an idea! You just stay right there, Kira-chan. I need to make a few calls To Be Continued
