"One of God's Better People"

Tom and Kathryn

Introductory Notes : I absolutely love Tom and Kathryn together. And they don't have to be together to be together. They are so alike - and yet they compliment eachother so well!! Though they never got to know eachother until Voyager's trip across the galaxy, they are friends "from way back when"; they were both Starfleet brats with demanding somewhat absent fathers, both born and bred to be the best and brightest of that old institution, both gifted, both wounded. They have a history, Kathryn is his father's star pupil, what Tom might have been had he not fallen. And she becomes the one who will pick him up. Kathryn gives Tom back his possibilities, allows him to dream again. How can he not love her for that? And as for Kathryn, it's obvious from the beginning she sees Tom as someone worth looking out for...and not just because of her relationship with his father. Tom is a charmer...but Kathryn can see through his bravura, she knows the angry, lonely, frightened little boy inside...the one who needs her. She responds to that and Tom becomes her favorite. Janeway becomes pretty palsy with her entire bridge crew, but there's something different about her relationship with Tom. It's not closer so much as deeper. And it is for this reason that she comes down so much harder on him when he crosses her. But despite their differences, he remains her Tom, her favorite. And he will always know she's special, one of God's better people, his angel.

You're one of God's better people
And you don't know
That's why you're special
And I cry so I can talk like this
From my downbeat existence
And I know that you can make my wish
If my wish is pure

But I don't know
I just don't know
I don't know
Let me love you so

Now I can't live this without you
I'd die wihtout you
Without you, without you

You're one of God's better people
And you don't know
That's why you're special

It must hurt to see your favorite man
Lose himself again and again
And I know that you're my only friend
From way back when

My wish was pure
It was oh so pure
It was pure
I couldn't love you more

Now I can't live this without you
I'd die without you
Without you
Now I can't live this without you
I'd die without you
Without you, without you

And everybody's going to step aside
As you spread your wings and you will fly
And take me to the other side where they know
'cos I don't know no more
I just don't know no more
I don't know
Let me love you so

Now I can't live this without you
I'd die without you
Without you
Now I can't live this wihtout you
I'd die without you
Without you, without you

You're one of God's better people
And you don't know
That's why you're special
