Earth Summit

The agenda for the Earth Summit 2 starting in Johannesburg in late August is chaotic: the US Governement remains relcutant to sign up to any new commitments. Whilst the UK is keen to make the summit a success it is still pushing free trade & voluntary standards for big business.

Trade Justice Rally

More than 12,000 people joined the largest ever lobby of MPs at the Trade Justice Movement's rally on 8 June.

Doorstep recycling

The Cabinet Office's Perfomance & Innovation Unit is due to report on how the Government should chnage its waste strategy. FoiE & the Community Recycling Project are workiung on a project which has produced research that shows much more recycling is possible. FoE has also produced a report, Communities Speak out on Waste which ensures the Government will hear the voice of ordinary people who are suffering because of their failure to tackle the waste crisis. www.foe.co.uk/campaigns/waste. Freightliners City Fram is planning to expand its composting project in which local residents & businesses are encouraged to recycle kicthen waste - more details at our monthly meeting.

Barnsbury Time Bank

The inaugural meeting for Barnsbury Time Bank is being held at 7:30 pm on Tuesday 27 August at the Albion pub, Thornhill Road N1. We will agree the timebank constitution & discuss ideas for time bank activities & publicity.
