PARISH COUNCIL
- MAYThe
Annual Parish Meeting was held on Thursday 21st May there being five
members of the public in attendance.
Mr. Morrish gave the Council Annual Report and further reports from twelve Parish organisations were received.
During
the Open Forum those members of the public present expressed their satisfaction
with the Council and stated “a good job was being done”.
There
then followed the Annual General Meeting of the Parish Council.
Cllrs.
Saunders and Greenway were re-elected Chairman and Vice Chairman.
Mr.
Morrish announced with regret that Cllr. Hartley is to stand down as a Parish
Parish
Plan:
The
Footpath and Cycleways Group have met with various footpath officials from the
County Council and hope in the future to produce a footpath map of the Parish.
No
progress was reported from the other groups
A
contractor for the Soutergate Car Park was chosen and work is to start shortly
on clearing out the top surface to enable a firm base to be laid. Once again if
you live in the Soutergate area and feel you can have an input into this project
please contact Mr. Morrish, the Parish Clerk.
An
account of the CGP Kirkby Ireleth Parish Council Trust Fund meeting in May was
given. A total of £1,524.00 was
distributed to local organisations and projects.
Various
planning notifications were received.
A
report from the police that there has been an increase in the rate of house
burglaries in the area was received. The advice to keep all doors locked, both
front and rear, and to report any suspicious behaviour to the police was
emphasised. A suspect has been identified for the damage caused to the bus
shelters and telephone boxes in the area.
The
proposed nuclear power station at Kirksanton was discussed at some length.
Councillors recognise that there will be a significant impact upon the Parish
concerning overhead power lines, increased traffic movements and a possible
threat to the railway. Our concerns are being passed to the relevant authorities
and it is hoped that public meetings will be held, in conjunction with Broughton
Parish, to gain further information as to the effects upon the area.
The
next meeting of the Council on Thursday 18th June 2009 at 7.00 p.m.
in Grizebeck Village Hall.
All
members of the public are invited to attend.

If anyone is interested in pursuing a career in law and would like to find out more about it and which route to take, I have just started work as a trainee solicitor at a Manchester firm and would be happy to give any help or advice that I can.
I went to school and Sixth Form locally and then went to Liverpool University to study English Literature and Language. During my 3 years at Liverpool I gained work experience at a law firm and quickly realised that this was what I wanted to do. After graduating from Liverpool I then went to the College of Law in Chester to do the Graduate Diploma in Law. This is a conversion course for people who did not do a law degree. After the GDLI decided to become a solicitor rather than a barrister and therefore had to complete the Legal Practice Course which I also did at the College. I was very lucky to be given grant towards my course fees from the CGP Kirkby Ireleth Parish Council Trust Fund which was an enormous help.
After graduating from the College of Law I was offered a two year training contract with a commercial law firm in Manchester which I started in September 2008
