To get a promotion, you must earn it by doing something to approve your promotion. An example would be: to get promoted to shaman in Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne, you must defeat one of the current shamans 2 out of 3 in a 1v1 on an approved ladder map(anything available in a regular ladder game is acceptable or anything specified by either a shaman or a leader).
