Kiowa is the daughter of Amy and Rusty Cozad, and the late Joe Earl Dupoint, and William and Joycetta Bear Elliott. Her father was the son of Donald "Donkey" and Rena Dupoint.On her grandfather's side, she traces her ancestry back to Georgia Botone Dupoint. Her grandmother comes from the Wahnee and Connywerdy families. Her ancestral background includes Chief Dohasan, Bau-tigh, Doyetone, Amy Bear, Bill Bear, and Joy Calisay. She received her Kiowa name, Pi Yah Pie Kee Doe Mah (Bright Shining Sun Woman), at the age of two from her Grandpa Nelson Bigbow. 

Kiowa has been culturally active since the age of three. She has won many contests in the southern cloth and buckskin categories as well as awards in art competitions, and was the 2003-2004 Southwest Oklahoma Vietnam Veterans Princess. 

Kiowa is a member of the Elgin High School Class of 2008, and is active in the EHS bands, the Native American Club, and the Kiowa language class. During the 2006-2007 school year, she was selected to the Shortgrass Honor Band, was voted to be the Native American Club Princess, and was selected to participate in the Oklahoma Legislative Page Program. 

She attends the Mt. Scott Kiowa United Methodist Church at Zodl-Tone and is the current president of the Southwest Region Methodist Youth Organization
