Sharon is the granddaughter of the late Rev. Walden Ware and Ivy Satepauhoodle Ware and the great-granddaughter of James Ware and Dorothy Poolaw and Able Satepauhoodle and Goom-sa-gope.

She had previously held the titles of 1992-1993 Carnegie High School Indian Heritage Club Princess and 1993-1994 Kiowa Warrior Descendants Princess. Following her reign as Kiowa Princess, she won the title of Miss Indian Oklahoma 1995, and the day she crowned the 1996 titleholder, July 20, 1996, was proclaimed "Sharon Jean Bailey Day" by Oklahoma governor Frank Keating.

Sharon is a graduate of Carnegie High School and attended Oklahoma City University before joining the United States Navy.
