Evalu was the daughter of James Ware (Chahkeah) and Dorothy Poolaw. She was first involved in the American Indian Exposition as an attendent to the 1939 Exposition Queen along with 1942 Kiowa Princess Vivian Saunkeah. The three travelled to the New York World's Fair to act as ambassadors for the Exposition and Oklahoma's Native American population. Two years later, after the Exposition began to recognize princesses from individual tribes, Evalu was selected to be the Kiowa representative. She received a bachelor of arts in Music and Cultural Studies.

Evalu was known and recognized for her contributions to Indian education, beginning with her role as a classroom teacher and later expanding to consultant capacities. Her honors in the field of education include the Oklahoma Education Association Humanitarian Award (1975) and Brigham Young University's Arts and Humanities Outstanding Indian of American Award (1976). Evalu was a member of the State Coordinating Commitee for the 1977 Oklahoma Women's Conference. In 1979, she was selected as the National Indian Education Association's "Indian Educator of the Year." She was also appointed to the 1984-1986 National Advisory Committee on Indian Education by President Ronald Reagan.

Later in life, Evalu stayed active in her culture through dance troupes, storytelling, and sign language demonstrations. She was a member of many organizations including the North American Indian Women's Association, the National Congress of American Indians, and the American Association of University Women. She was one of the founding members of the Oklahoma Federation of Indian Women and was instumental in organizing their Miss and Junior Miss Indian Oklahoma Pageants.
