Kiowa Tribal Princess Candidates

Rachel
Michelle Horse: Rachel is a descendant of Hunting Horse (Tsa-Toke),
Pea Lame, Komalty, Toyekoyah, and Ware families. She is the daughter
of Bruce and Carol (Hiney) Horse, the granddaughter of Frank and Aggie
(Satepauhoodle) Hiney, the late Molly (Lopez) Hiney, and Curtis and
Penny Horse, and the great-grandaughter of the late Matthew Komalty
Toyekoyah, Vena "Gertie" (Ware) Komalty Toyekoyah, the late
James Meyers Horse, Sr. and Mae (Whitehorse) Horse. Her great-great-grandparents
are the late Harry Komalty Toyekoyah, Ellen (Tsa Tsa Tine) Komalty
Toyekoyah, Guy Ware (Aut-Daugh), and Daisy Agopetah (Koe). Rachel
is enrolled Kiowa and also belongs to the Tohono O'odham tribe of
Arizona. Her Kiowa name is Dome-Ba-Hodle (Kills on the Ground). She
was a sixteen-year-old sophomore at Midwest City high school where
she maintained a 3.9 grade point average, was a member of the National
Honor Society, and was enrolled in numerous honors classes. Her extracurricular
activities included being a member of the the Technology Student Association,
the French Club, the Club of Natural Sciences, and playing on the
tennis and academic teams. |
Terri
Poahway: Terri is the the daughter of Michael and Lucinda
(Keahbone) Poahway and has a sister, Tracy, and two brothers, Jason
and Jeremy. Her Kiowa family includes grandmother (maternal) Hanna
Keahbone, great-grandmother (paternal) Jennie Geimausaddle, Ky'apaikibona
(Saved the Day for the Chieftains), Edgar Keahbone and Sindi (Mopope)
Keahbone, Gy'aiholy aamgya (Man Who Goes into a Crowd of Enemies)
and Alky'ama (Stick Woman), and Gool'hay'yee (Took Everything Red)
and Aup'kauty. She was a sixteen-year-old junior at Cache High School
where she was Junior Class President, captain of the CHS Cheerleading
Squad, an honor roll student, Gold Card recipient, and was a member
of the basketball and track teams. Outside of school, she was a member
of Time To Cheer All Star Cheerleading Squad, the Oklahoma Native
American Youth Choir, and the Cache Indian Methodist Church. Terri
had previously served as the 1995-1996 Gool'hay'yee Descendants Princess
and 1997-1998 Jr. Miss Indian Oklahoma |

Kara
Alayne Toppah: Kara is the daughter of Byron and Carol Bearbow
Toppah, the granddaughter of Paul and Rita Quoetone Gaddy and the
late Jean Bearbow, Norman and Eunice Whitebuffalo Kaubin, and Samuel
and Julia Tainpeah Yellowhair, and the great-granddaughter of Horace
and Mabel Longhorn Quoetone. Her great-great-grandfather was Jimmy
Quoetone, her great-great-great-grandfather was Longhorn, and she
is a direct descendant Red Tipi, Satanta, Apeahtone, Whitebuffalo,
Sate-Tope-ay-Dah, and Ta-Nee-doo-ah. She has a sister, Amber Catharine,
and a brother, Tory Paul. She was an eighteen-year-old senior at Elgin
High School where she was active in Student Council, FHA, Native American
Club, and cross country. Kara attended church at Mount Scott Kiowa
Methodist Church and is a lifetime member of the United Methodist
Women. Her cultural activities included being a member of the Quoetone
Family Organization and Satethieday Khatgomebaugh, performing and
teaching sign language, beading, and learning the Kiowa language.
Kara is a former Kiowa Warrior Descendents Princess and Kiowa Tia-Piah
Society Princess. |

Chrystal
Janelle Yeahquo: Chrystal is the daughter of Timothy and
Ivy (Sanchez) Yeahquo. Her maternal family includes Red Tepee, Ay-oy-ah-lay
Satepauhoodle, Abel and Gome-sa-gope, Ivy Satepauhoodle Ware, Janelle
Ware Sanchez, Khee-day-aim-khee, Kiowa George Poolaw, James and Dorothy
Poolaw Ware, and Walden Ware. Her paternal family includes Gui-pa-go
(Old Chief Lonewolf), Fred Botone, Fannie Yeahquo, Edward Yeahquo,
Maurice Yeahquo, Maureen Yeahquo, George Bent and Kiowa Woman, Au-Gu-Ko
(Yellowhair #1), Au-Gu-ko (Yellowhair #2), and Mary Yellowhair Yeahquo.
Chrystal was a student at the University of Oklahoma, active in the
OU American Indian Student Association, the Campus Crusade for Life,
and Baptist Student Union as well as taking part in Kiowa language
classes. She graduated from Mustang High School in 1999 where she
was a Student Council Representative, Queen of Hearts Candidate (1997)
and Queen (1999), a member of the Native American Club and the Womens
Choir. She was selected IEC Mustang Student of the Year and voted
Class Clown. She had previously served as the 1998-1999 Miss Indian
Oklahoma City. |
