OVERVIEW

The Ninja-To project began in early 3050 after the successful demonstration of the C3 computer. The Bureau of Substitution felt that a specialized lance designed around the C3 computer should be looked at. After the Clan invasion interest in the program dramatically increased, the first result was the Ninja-To. Designed as a battle field support mech, it is capable of standing at long range and using targeting data from a spotter vehicle or mech to deliver powerfully accurate strikes. Independence Weaponry was selected to construct the Ninja-To in 5052.

CAPABILITIES

Independence Weaponry decided to fit the Ninja-To with paired Gauss Rifles, the range and damage potential met the design requirements perfectly. The Gauss Rifles were also designed to rotate backwards to allow improved Anti-Aircraft defence and to protect the lightly armored rear of the Ninja-To. Although the Ninja-To is supplied with four tons of gauss ammo, designers felt that it should be able to continue to fight well after its ammunition was exhausted. Original designs called for a pair of ER-Large Lasers, but after a number of chronic overheating problems on the prototype, it was decided to use conventional large lasers instead.

The Matabushi C3 computer is mounted in a modular compartment in the right torso, making it, appropriately, the heart of the mech. It is designed to be easily upgraded as new systems are developed, as well as replaced if damaged.

Endo Steel is used throughout the structure using a design similar to the Star League Behemoth mech, even though the Ninja-to is 15 tons lighter it carries almost an identical weapons load. Protection is provided by 16 tons of standard armor with most of it on the front, although the back is lightly armored, tests have shown it not to be a major factor.

Another unusual feature was the use of high-boron steel in the construction of the cockpit liner and mechwarrior seat. Rumors persist that Independence Weaponry may be trying to develop a new type of battlemech armor, however the current output of their experimental facility on Quentin, is inadequate for anything more that a handful of mechs. For now this technology will likely only be used in the most vital areas of mech construction.

DEPLOYMENT

Originally, the Ninja-To was to be produced at a new Independence Weaponry facility on Luthien. However recoil suppression problems delayed the start of production. When the attack on Luthien came, only the prototype was ready and although it performed spectacularly, the production line was severely damaged and Independence Weaponry decided to rebuild the new line on Quentin. After the Clan truce, product mangers decided to redesign the arms to solve the recoil problem and the first production run of 6 Ninja-To's were delayed till December of 3058. They currently serve in the 2nd Genyosha.

VARIANTS

Although a new design, 2 different variants of the Ninja-To currently exist. The first is a command variant which replaces the Large Lasers with another C3 computer to allow company sized coordination and a command couch for improved battlefield operation. The second, an assault variant mounts an Ultra AC/20 instead of a Gauss cannon and large lasers. The prototype Ninja-To has also been fitted with an experimental anti-aircraft targeting computer and an improved C3 computer allowing up to 5 links and better ECCM.
