Research: In the 1787 Census, he is found in Winchester, with no family, at least 21 years of age and owning one horse, mare, colt or mule and one "cattle."
Also, it seems (a) James appeares in the 1810 census. If this is him, there is a FWM under ten (Wesley!) and one 45 and over, which fits beautifully. There are also two FWFs under ten, two between 10-16, one 16-26 and one 26-45.
In the 1820 census for Frederick County, he appears with a FWM 10-16 (who was probably ten as he didn't appear in the 1810 census), a FWM 16-26 (Wesley would be 18) and a FWM 45 and over. There are FWFs listed as 2 under 10, one 10-16, one 16-26 and one 45 and over.
Depending on when James married, it seems Wesley would be one of his younger sons.
Given the rarity of the Newham name anytime and anywhere in the US, it is quite likely we're related.
In the 1840 census there is an Elizabeth Newham. Possibly a daughter. However, she disappears after that.
James married Unknown in 1787-1796. (Unknown was born in 1765-1785 in Virginia.)
Based on census records on probable birthdate of James Jr.

His age is a guesstimate, provided he married when he was twenty, however, it would seem he was born before then, seeing as how he's not listed with James in the 1810 census.

Wesley was a teacher in 1872 in Pendleton County, West Virginia.
I assume Wesley received the nickname "Dewey" when he married Eusebia. Beth Newham, who supplied me the information of the first marriage, was unaware of this name, so it would seem likely.

Wesley married Ann Moore on December 14, 1822 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. (Ann Moore was born on April 11, 1797 and died on May 13, 1860.)

+ 48 M viii. Samuel Gideon Newham 5 was born on May 7, 1880 in Ray County, Missouri, died on October 7, 1952 in Ray County, Missouri and was buried in Wakenda Cemetary, Hardin, Missouri.23. Susan Virginia Newham 13 was born on June 18, 1865 in Pendleton, WV and died on March 20, 1933 in Mount Jackson, Virginia.
During the 1920s Susan had a persistent, frightening dream of an enourmous machine coming through the valley, taking all the young men and killing them. She later interpreted the dream as World War I. Her son George did return from WWI, but died after his return of diabetes and rhespiratory complicatoins from breathing mustard gas.
On the back of George Harper's picture, Mildred Bowman Miller wrote the following. Whether the relationship is in reference to Mildred, or to her children is uncertain. Probably to her children.
Quoting:
"Greate Uncle George Harper on Mother's side. Mom
Mother and Aunt Sally Rexrood stayed with him after their father died. Aunt Ada Branson stayed with Uncle Will Harper, this ones brother. Mom"
Nannette Miller remembers her mother, Mildred, talking about the Kelly family in relation to the Newhams.
Jackie Green recalls letters from her brother in Missouri ("out west") where he fussed with her for changing her name from Ginny (Jenny/Virginia) to Susan.
Susan married John Solon Bowman, son of William Bowman and Sarah Rosenberger, on March 27, 1890. (John Solon Bowman was born on October 14, 1855 in Bowman, VA and died on April 27, 1922 in Mount Jackson, Virginia.)

gray. Charles was named after Susan's father. He died of whooping cough and diptheria when he was seven months old.

Emily Hutte Mytinger was born on September 8, 1830 in Lancanster, Ohio and died on August 30, 1904 in Port Townsend, Jefferson Cty, Washington.
Fannie was named after a close friend of Susan's, a black lady of Buchanan, Virginia who thought no one would believe the child was named after her. That's why Susan gave Fannie her friend's full name, so there would be now doubt. Fannie died of the flu within a day of her brother Lloyd.
