The second movie being shown is "Glory Road" and this movie is a true story. This is a great movie for anyone who has an interest in sports. The movie closely tells the story of the 1966 run to the national college basketball championship by Texas Western University (now University of Texas at El Paso.) Texas Western wins the national championship over a heavily favored Kentucky Wildcats team who was coached at the time by legend Adolph Rupp. However, there is a bigger story being featured than just this small university winning the title over a Goliath such as Kentucky.
Don Haskins played by Josh Lucas is a small-town family man trying to make a living, supporting his family by coaching basketball. After coaching girls' high school basketball for some time, having success, he receives the job at Texas Western.
He quickly learns he cannot compete with recruiting the top white high school players to come to Western, so he turned to recruiting black players from the inner cities of New York and Detroit, which was unheard of at this time.
Haskins did not receive the support of the administrators of the school, community or most of America with his decisions for bringing in mostly black players. Just to spite them, the team gets off to a great start rattling off an undefeated record half-way through the season. During this time, the team had to overcome obstacles on and off the court pertaining to racism.
