May 12, 2001 Orange County Kingstonmile A new era begins
Felix "I feel funny" Lopez set the Orange County Masters record of 8:54. Here he shows how to suck one down.
Mike Bremser takes it to another level and sets a new Orange County Beer Mile record of 6:49. Here Steven "2 Time Champ" Robinson hands off the title.
Mike's shoes. They must have been 20 years old but have brought him a lot of luck.
The Start. Notice the casual style of Mike (3rd from the left). Mike came in confident. Before the race he said, "4 cups of coffee and a burrito for lunch and after training the 800 in 3:20 on Wednesday night, I am going out there to win and I have the tools to win."
After a quick first lap in 1:32, Darren started to suffer. After his 3rd lap he went from side to side of the track and said, "I got nothing today. I quit." Last beer mile he displayed great skill in getting to the bushes and feeling much better. It was not to be a repeat performance.
Eric is in last place after one lap and already hurting. Mike and Darren have finished their 2nd beer and left the line before Eric finishes his first lap.
Mike sees that Darren didn't drink his fourth beer and starts training for the next beer mile right away.
Charles "Chartmaster" Wilbur comes up with some charts to try to figure out how to run splits to set a PR.
All the charts in the world cannot help Charles when he does the last lap in 8:48. He wasn't too upset. He still beat his first beer mile time. Here he just sits back and enjoys his fourth Heineken with Kenny.
