"...what must I do to be saved?"

Acts 16:31 nkj

If you are reading this, you have either found the answer to the above question or you are still looking...

We are all on a journey called "life".  We come from different backgrounds and localities, yet we all have a basic underlying tie with one another - God's love.  Salvation is a gift from God - it is not something we earn.  It is through Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God that we are saved.  The following in a walk through the Bible on the topic of salvation...

If you have gotten this far and you have not yet asked Jesus into your heart - this might be a good time to consider doing it.  His love for you is so very great, I cannot possibly convey it to you in words.

He is there and He waits for you to call out to Him.  He will meet you where you are - you don't have to clean up your life first - it's not by anything we do that we can be saved. Remember, salvation is a gift.  All you have to do is call out to Him with a sincere heart.

Romans 10:8-10 - But what does it say?  "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach);  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

  • In turning to God, you must recognize that Jesus died on the Cross to pay for your sins.  As you give your life to Him and ask Him to be your Savior, He forgives you of and cleanses you of all your sins.  The slate is wiped clean - it is as if you had never sinned.  In Luke 23:39-43, as Jesus is dying on the cross, he forgives a criminal who is hanging next to Him who asks the Lord to remember him.  Jesus states; "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."

  • It is important that we recognize that we are sinners and confess our sins to Jesus as we ask for salvation.  We must also believe that with our confession comes God's forgiveness.  That means you must accept this forgiveness which includes the act of forgiving yourself.  The Lord died that our sins may be forgiven.  We are to not treat this lightly.  Jesus died to set us free.  You must leave your guilt and shame with Him after you have been cleansed.  This is the key to achieving the freedom Jesus is offering us!

  • God does expect us to put Him first in our lives and to turn away from sin.  This is called repentance.  If we seek Him and ask Him, He will help to enable us to do this.

  • Fellowship with other Christians is also very important, not only for guidance, but also for support.

  • Reading from the Bible each day is essential.  If you are having a hard time understanding what the Bible is saying, be honest with the Lord and ask Him to help you understand it.  I know that sounds kind of strange, but believe it or not - God is real and He hears us when we talk to Him and He really will help you understand what His Word says.

  • Prayer is also very important.  Prayer isn't anything you have to learn how to do.  Prayer is "talking to God".  Everyone talks to God in their own way - the important thing is that you are honest with Him and that you seek Him and His input into your life.

  • The Lord is seeking a relationship with us.  He wants us to spend time with Him.  The more we seek Him, the closer we will come to Him and the better we will understand Him and His Kingdom.

  • Now for some more scriptures on salvation...

As you read these passages, I encourage you to look them up in the Bible as the verses on either side will help give a more complete picture of what the Lord is saying to us.       (the New King James translation was used in the following)

Titus 3:5 - not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

Revelation3:30 - "Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and dine with him, and he with Me."

Acts 16:30-31 - And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"  So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."

John 3:16-18 - "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed the name of the only begotten Son of God."

John 10:9 - "I am the door.  If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture."

Acts 4:12 - "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Romans 10:13 - For "whoever calls on the mane of the Lord shall be saved."  (quote from Joel 2:32-see below)

Joel 2:32 - And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.  For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls.

1 Corinthians 1:18 - For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.

1 Timothy 2:1-5 - Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time...

2 Timothy 1:9 - who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,

2 Corinthians 7:9 - Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance.  For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing.  For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Ephesians 1:13 - In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Ephesians 6:17 - And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

1 Thessalonians 5:9 - For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ

Revelation 12:10 - Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of the brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death."

Matthew 1:21 - "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."

I Corinthians 2:2 - For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

2 Timothy 4:18 - And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom.  To Him be glory forever and ever.  Amen!

Hebrews 7:25 - Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock.

If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,

I will come in to him, and dine with him,

and he with Me."
