Rice was my only means for nourishment. The bland taste and colorless appearance inspired no fulfillment. The aching growl in the pit of my stomach forced the white pebbles to meet my lips. The drunks and mice always beat me to my momma's succotash. She began with good intentions however her alcoholic craving defeated her good deeds.
Her drunken friends had absolutely no regard for me, which justified my actions. As they snored in their drunken stupor, I slid their gambling stash from the hole in the bottom of their pockets and ran to the corner store for real nourishment.....Doritos with hot sauce. I stood outside of the store and savored every bite and then returned to my hell hole.
Upon my return, my eyes met with the most disgusting but hilarious display. The greediest of the drunks that they called Big Ben, lay in the middle of the floor, drooling and farting. He left food in the corner of his mouth that a rat decided to retrieve. I watched amazed as the rat nibbled away and appeared to be giving Big Ben a tongue kiss. Everything and everyone scuffled for nourishment in our home.
