The King Tour started the 2001 season with a K$900,000 Skins match.   Tour veterans Mike Hauser and Steve DaCosta were joined by the reigning King Challenge Champion Rohan Tudor and tour rookie Phil Bamford.  Conditions were fine and the course was in great condition, no excuse for the crap golf displayed by all players on the opening holes!  Rohan found form early and was inches away from a hole in one on the 4th (Lets not go into that further, though he did make par!).  Mike then caught the Par train for a couple of holes.  Rookie Phil took to the King tour pressure with ease racking up Skins on 1, 7 and 8.  Steve saved his best for his second into the Par 5 9th, a sensational fairway wood onto the green.  Eagle eluded him but a tap in birdie was enough for some cash.

Grip it and Rip it - 1st hole Par 4 370 metres
Reigning title holder Rohan launches into the first drive
7th hole Par 3 151 metres
Simon tees off as Paul, Bondy and Steve look on

Mike again caught the Par train and racked up two more skins, before Phil birdied the watery 12th to take the cash.  3 pars on 13 carried the Skins through to the tough Par 3 14th, it was between Phil and Rohan after both Mike and Steve went into the lake.  Rohan took the skins.  The final 3 holes jackpotted leaving $240K up for grabs on 18.  Rohan struck one dead centre on the fairway.  Steve and Mike went left, Phil hit water right, starting to feel the pressure that is - KING GOLF. Steve made it on to the green in 4, Mike took a divot out of a tree costing a shot and was just off the green in 4.  Phils watery demise put him out of the running.  Rohans second went into the greenside trap landing in a shocking lie.  The Tudor wizardry came through however to give him a chance at par.  Mikes bogey putt didnt make it.  Rohan missed par but tapped in for bogey.  Steve had a putt to halve the hole and went within inches but it failed to drop.  Moneybags Rohan gratefully accepted the skin.
