Joseph & Anna (Kollmann) Komers

Joseph & Anna Komers Joseph Komers was born March 18, 1833 in Bohemia to Matthew & Elanora Komers. He married Miss Anna Kollmann on September 8, 1861 in Muscoda, Grant County, WI. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Ed Whartel. Joseph Komers died at the age of 47 on March 16, 1880 at his home in Muscoda, WI. The cause of death was listed in the Grant County Mortality Index as chronic gastritis. I have been told by direct descendents that Anna (Kollmann) Komers, who never learned the English language, later remarried to the owner of a Muscoda saloon and liquor store. I believe the man's name may have been Strnad or Kracha, but have found no record of a second marriage for Anna, so I do not know if this was fact. The date of the marriage was likely to have been after 1880, as Joseph's mother, Elanora Komers, was living with Anna & her children in Muscoda in 1880 and there was neither mention of a husband, nor was Anna's name changed.

Anna (Kollmann) Komers died April 19, 1902. The birthdate on her tombstone is July 8, 1842. Joseph's mother, Elanora Komers, died in 1883 at the age of 82. Another stone shows an "M. Komers" who died May 19, 1872 at age 74 years and 7 months. This was probably Matthew Komers, father of Joseph, and Elanora's husband. Several members of the Komers family, and many Kolman family members (possibly members of Anna's family?) are buried at Blue River Valley Church Cemetery, south of Muscoda in Grant County. (Take County Rd. G to County Q where you will find church signs. It's not far to Church Road. Take a left). The Komers graves are right near the front.

Joseph and Anna Komers had 7 children: (Names in red indicate links to other pages)

Joseph F. Komers married Mattie E. Bowen and lived out his life in Richland County, WI. He is buried at the Richland Center city cemetery.

John Komers is believed to have settled in the Marathon County, WI area.

Ludvic Henry Komers was born on January 01, 1871 and married Dor Rue, daughter of Charles Wesley & Grizella (McIlhattan) Rue, on January 21, 1893 in Muscoda, Grant County, WI.

Sophia Komers married Marcus Mayer on January 7, 1892 in Grant County, WI. The couple is believed to have lived in Milwaukee around 1942. They had at least one son, Gerald. Records I have found lead me to wonder if they may have also married in a second Hebrew ceremony on April 26, 1896 in Milwaukee, WI. According to the second marriage record, Sophia Komers' parents are named as Abraham Komers & Caroline Kohlman. Perhaps these were their middle names?? The Marcus Mayer of the second record was a New York Publisher who had been born in Ohio to August and Mina (Herzog) Mayer.

Emma Komers married William Bradley and is believed to have settled in Douglas County, WI.

Anna Christina Komers married Robert Dowling and moved to Vashon, Washington.

Delia Komers is thought to have married a Mr. Sterner, though no information about her has been found.
