Must-See Tommy and Kim Episodes
Below is a list of some episodes that are great insights into the characters of Tommy and Kimberly. They're some of my favorite episodes from seasons past. If you're interested in the two of them, these are a must-see!
Power Ranger Punks - Okay, so Tommy isn't in this episode. But it's still worth a mention. Rita uses a potion to turn Billy and Kimberly into, you guessed it, Power Ranger Punks! Watch Kim wear horrible outfits, big hair and flirt with Skull! More importantly, see her stand alone against the Terror Toad, and prove that she is a formidable fighting force all on her own. You go, girl!
Foul Play in the Sky - Another Tommyless episode. Kim's uncle Steve invites her to go flying in his plane. Rita ruins the outing by giving Steve a spiked soda that puts him to sleep. Kimberly is forced to fly the plane herself! Boy, is that gal cool under pressure, proving once again what a capable Power Ranger she is. (And that flying a zord is apparently easier than flying a plane. Go figure.) Also, some guy who is not Tommy hits on Kim at the end of the episode and Jason and Zack make fun of him. Hee!
Switching Places - Ths is by far one of the most infamous episodes of Power Rangers. Billy's new invention causes him and Kim to "switch places." David Yost (Billy) does a frighteningly good job of playing Kimberly. You just gotta see it. It's a classic episode, one that left many a fanfic author wondeirng what would have happened had Tommy been around at the time!
Green with Evil (parts 1 - 5) - Finally, Tommy has arrived. Kim wasn't the only one watching be intrigued by the new Green Ranger. The audience couldn't get enough of him! (Especially me.) The five-part series includes some really great Tommy/Kim moments, including Kim's love at first site, Tommy saving Kim from Bulk and Skull's harrassment and evil!Tommy telling Kim off (aww!). Of course, at the end, the evil spell over Tommy is broken and he joins the team as the sixth Power Ranger, and paving the way for one of the show's most popular romances.
The Spit Flower - If you ignore the sort of lame premise of this episode, it's really good. Kim designs a float for a parade, only the putties destroy it. Tommy, being hopelessly in love with Kim by now, enlists Alpha's help to fix the float so it can be in the parade afterall. He's so sweet. Why doesn't he love me? Why?
Calamity Kimberly - Kim's having a bad day. I mean, a really sucky day. First her outfit is ruined, then she gets caught in the rain (looking soggy in front of Tommy! Poor baby!) and then she gets attacked by one of Rita's monsters. I'd feel bad for her execpt, Tommy walks her home from school and then, when she trips, he catchs her. And then, when she appears later, all dolled up, his eyes near fall out of his head. As far as I'm concerned, Kim didn't have such a bad day after all.
The Green Candle (parts 1 and 2) - Now it's Tommy's turn to have a bad day. Rita uses the green candle to strip him of his powers. To the horror of Power Ranger fans everywhere, he is forced to give his coin to Jason to keep Rita from regaining the Green power. Throughout this traumatic ordeal he attempts to ask Kim on a date. The whole Power Ranger thing may not work out for Tommy, but at least he gets the girl! Kim agrees to go with him to the dance and they share their very first kiss.
Return of an Old Friend (parts 1 and 2) - Thankfully, it's not long after Tommy loses his powers that Saban wises up and brings our favorite Ranger back. Rita kidnaps the parents of the first five Rangers and then Goldar tricks them into giving up their Power Coins in order to save their relatives. With their powers gone, the Rangers only have one option: to use the Green Coin. (Cut to a really amusing shot of Tommy walking into the empty Youth Center with ominious music in the background. Hee!) Zordon infuses Tommy with enough power to sustain him through a painful battle with Goldar. Go Tommy! Though Tommy is once again the Green Ranger, his Powers are weak and unreliable so for all the remaining Green Ranger episodes, he is putting his life in danger whenever he Morphs. What a guy. Also, Kim introduces Tommy to her parents. Because she loves him. Duh!
An Oyster Stew - The final episode of season one, Zack asks his love interest, Angela, on a date. Tommy and Kim double with him. They go to an outdoor French restuarant and, of course, Rita decides to ruin the occasion. Bitch.
The Bloom of Doom - Lord Zedd puts Kim under a spell and she is rude to Tommy when he gives her a flower. It's a tragedy. But Trini breaks the spell and all is right with the world.
The Song of Guitardo - Kim writes a song for Tommy. When Guitardo gets control of all the other Rangers' minds, Kim and Tommy must team up to stop him. They are cute together even in battle. In the end, Kim plays the guitar and sings for Tommy: "Down the road, we never know what life may have in store. Winds of change will rearrange our lives more than before. But you'll never stand alone, my friend. Memories never die. Within our hearts, they'll always live and never say goodbye." All together now: awwww.
Green No More (parts 1 and 2) - Zedd uses a monster to put all of Tommy's powers into the Green Crystal (not to be confused with the Green Candle). Without any Power, Tommy fights Goldar in a field. This is Tommy's final episode as Green Ranger. (And this time I mean it!) Sadly, no consoling smooching in this episode. Woe.
Beauty and the Beast - Kim is missing Tommy (who can apparently just skip town if he doesn't have his powers. Don't these kids go to school?) She goes to a psychic, but on the way, Zedd captures her and attempts to turn her into his Queen. But Kim's all, "NO! You can't have me! I love Tommy! Neener Neener!" ... Okay, I made that last part up.
White Light (part 1 and 2) - After getting their butts handed to them by one of Zedd's monsters, Billy delves into the depths of the Command Center and discovers that Zordon and Alpha are making a new White Ranger. Kim pouts, saying they should've given this Power to Tommy. And then when the new Ranger is revealed -- surprise! -- it's Tommy! Kim promptly faints and Tommy has to rouse her. It's cute, really.
Two for One - In this episode we get to see Tommy and Kim out on a date. Tommy is late, of course, because he adorably forgets to "wind his watch." Silly boy, get a digital. Of course, Zedd ruins the party by sending down a monster.
When is a Ranger Not a Ranger? - A monster called Scatterbrain erases Tommy, Kim and Billy's memories. Even without knowing who they are, Tommy is still crushing on Kim, proving their love transcends... stuff. This episode is also cool because the hapless Bulk and Skull get their very first chance and being heroes. Of, course, they don't remember it later. Wah.
Best Man for the Job - Kim and Tommy run against each other for Class President. Don't they know not to mix love and politics? Guess not. Zedd puts a spell on them which makes them resent one another and call each other funny names. Once the spell is broken, Tommy drops out of the race because their love is more important than the office. (Also, because he's whipped.)
Storybook Rangers (parts 1 and 2) - At the school's book fair, Kim finds a fairy tale book her dad used to read to her. She says she always dreamed of being a princess and rescued by a prince on a white horse. Tommy wonders if a white tiger is ok. (I defy you not to say, "aww" at this moment! It is impossible!) He buys the book for her only to have Zedd use it to trap him, Kim and Rocky(who gets in the way of Tommy and Kim's quality fairy tale alone time) inside the story.
Wild West Rangers (parts 1 and 2) - Kim falls through a time hole (happens all the time!) and is transported back to Wild West Anger Grove, where she meets the ancestors of her Ranger friends, including the White Stranger (aka, Tommy in a cowboy hat). The White Stranger is clearly interested in "Calamity Kim." It must run in the family.
The Potion Notion - Finister's love potion makes Kim fall in love with Skull! Gag! Tommy is heartbroken. But once the potion wears off, she comes back to her senses and takes Tommy to a dance where they continue to be cute.
Changing of the Zords (parts 1 - 3) - In a previous episode, we met Kat, Rita's new evil human. Kat steals Kim's Pink Power Coin, causing her to lose her powers. Tommy is crushed. He says that she needs to get better becase "he needs her." When the Rangers are otherwise occupied, Kim attemps to "save" Kat from some Tengas anyway and gets kidnapped in the process. Tommy must do battle with Lord Zedd himself to save the woman he loves!
A Different Shade of Pink (parts 1 - 3) - In the episode that broke all our hearts, Kim gives her Power Coin to Katherine and decides to follow her dreams of becoming a world class gymnast. Bye, Kim. We'll miss you... And so will Tommy.
I'm Dreaming of a White Ranger - Okay, so this episode was clearly taped before "A Different Shade of Pink" but had to air after it because it was a Christmas episode. The Rangers have to help Santa. It's the lame. But the episode does have an upside: mistletoe. Throughout the episode, Tommy and Kim struggle to get their holiday smooch. But just like "The Green Candle" things don't work out for them until the very end.
All images shamelessly stolen from Ars Amatoria. Thanks to Vespera. Also please excuse any inaccuracies. I don't have these episodes on tape and I did this all from memory.
