| The Pyung Ahn Hyungs were originally called 'Jae Nam' and come fromthe Hwa Nam Province in China. Who created the forms is unknown, as well as the date of their creation, however an Okinawan master known as Mr. Idos broke the forms into five parts which remains virtually unchanged to this day. This fact credits Mr Idos with the creation of the Pyung Ahn forms, and also sets the date to be around 1870. The Korean symbol for 'Pyung' resembles a balanced scale and translates into English as 'calm and peaceful'. The symbol for 'Ahn' translates to be 'safe and confident' lending the meaning of the Pyung Ahn forms to be forms of peace and confidence. They are also called the Turtle forms, because of the calm, peaceful and confident nature of the turtle.
