| Destiny's Child '99 TEEN PEOPLE Online chatted with Destiny's Child on November 30, 1999 HostTPtony: Welcome! We are pleased to welcome Columbia Records' femme fatale group Destiny's Child. We're joined by Beyonce and Kelly tonight. Destiny's Child is getting ready for a big LIFEbeat concert tomorrow night in New York City to benefit World AIDS Day. If you can't make it to town for the show, sign onto Levi.com for a live webcast tomorrow night at 8:30 PM ET. For everyone that registers, Levi's will make a $1 donation to LIFEbeat. We're going to kick off with our first question. Question: Hello girls, I am a very big fan of yours, your music rocks! My question was, do you feel compition or any pressure seeing how there are other girl R&B groups such as TLC and 702? Beyonce Knowles: We feel like a lot of those groups opened the doors for us. We feel like there's room for everybody. We feel blessed to have the opportunity to be out there. Question: I think all of you are really pretty and you guyz are my role models!!!!! I was just wonderin how was it like making Bugaboo, thanks!!!!! Kelly Rowland: Thank you very much! It was very fun making "Bug A Boo". We came up with the treatment for it, so to see everything come to life was overwhelming. Question: How did you first get together as a group? Kelly Rowland: LeToya and Beyonce originally formed the group. Beyonce and LeToya went to school together, and LaTavia and I went to school together, and we've been singing ever since! Question: Do you girls have any celebrity crushes? Beyonce Knowles: If I did, I wouldn't say, because everyone would find out! Kelly Rowland: No. Beyonce Knowles: And then when they found out, they'd act funny, and then we'd act funny...you get a little shy. Question: How old were you when you decided your on career? Beyonce Knowles: We formed the group when we were 9 or 10, and when we formed the group, we all knew that this was where we wanted to be. Question: How long have the four you been friends? Kelly Rowland: We've been friends since we were 9 or 10. Question: All of you ladies are DA BOMB. Beyonce, you are the best singer on this planet. I saw your performance in LA at Motown Live and it was excellent. Do you guy have plans on performing out in Cali again anytime soon? Kelly Rowland: Definitely. If you look on www.destinyschild.com, you'll see where we'll be, and we'll be there very soon -- Jan or Feb. We have a calendar on the website. Question: Are you guys planning for a new cd in the year 2000? FOXYB181 Beyonce Knowles: Yes. We're going to start recording the new album at the end of January or the beginning of February. Question: Hey!!! Where did the idea for "Bills Bills Bills" come from? Beyonce Knowles: It was She'kspere's idea. He did TLC's "No Scrubs". We heard it a month before we recorded it and remembered it after only hearing it one time. It ended up being #1 for 9 consecutive weeks on R&B and all across the board on pop and sales charts. It was the first time one of our songs was #1 across the board. We co-wrote the verses and the bridge of the song so that it could fit us, because just hearing "Can you pay my bills?" might make you think that we're gold diggers, but in the song, the guy runs up our bills, and we're asking him to pay us back. HostTPtony: Were you guys approached by any credit card companies to do an endorsement after the song hit? Both: No! (laughs) Beyonce Knowles: We wish! Question: Who are you excited to be performing with at tomorrow night's LIFEbeat show? Kelly Rowland: 'Nsync. This will be our first time performing with them, and we really love them. Question: I love your music , and i was just wondering what is like being so young in this business where you have to be so grown up? Kelly Rowland: It's overwhelming, because a lot of people our age haven't experienced the things we have, so it's a privilege. But it's also hard, because most 18 year olds can play and not be so serious. But in our jobs, we have to be serious when it's appropriate. But we can deal with it. Question: Hi girls...I love you and your videos...I just wanna know who makes your clothes? Kelly Rowland: Tina Knowles makes all our clothes. She's Beyonce's mother. It's really great because she knows our body shapes and personalities so the clothes she makes fit our personalities. Question: Do you guys go online a lot or do you even have screen names? Kelly Rowland: I go online whenever I have access to a computer because we're always on the road. I want a laptop for Christmas so that we can talk to the fans more. I want a screen name; I don't have one now. |
