INCIDENT REPORT: (Capricious, 4th Week, 5th Day)
Incident: In the nearby fenced-off burned section, a gate had been broken and hole to Undersigil opened. We discovered this when three larvae appeared in the street. After killing them, we investigated the area, fighting and killing ten more. I entered the hole to lure more out for the group to pick off, drinking a potion of fire resistance and telling Bedlam to fireball the area with me in it, if it can hit the creatures. He does, but fire doesn’t seem to affect them much. A fierce battle, but we killed six more. We found a weak magic shield, a +4 lance, and a staff of command, all of which we sold.
As result of this and other exploits, I was promoted to Measure Two and ordered to investigate clean out and map the local Undersigil area.
Addendum: On the way to Alondra’s house(see RJ-1032) we met two more larvae in the street, killing them.
Update: (Capricious, 4th Week, 7th Day) We entered the opening that the larva worms were escaping from, after receiving the key and permission from Mr. White from the coliseum construction company. We were attacked in one passage by three baubau tannari and ten dretch. After killing them, we slew five worms. Returning to base, we gathered reinforcement trops from Harmonium and Marcykiller ranks and returned to the tunnels. Our intention was to exploit the effectiveness of aerial fire against opponents, and to ward against unexpected large spaces. We killed three more worms, then found a room with three sarcophogi and a hole broken through from an adjacent room. The bricks of the room had been sealed with a silvery substance, but the worms had broken through anyway.
Inside, we discovered the remains of what appears to be a vanquished god, easily several hundred feet long, lying on its back. Only its face was visible to us. The worms were coming out of its worm-eaten mouth. We entered the mouth and came to its empty ribcage, killing three worms on the way. Inside were several rows of larva worm eggs. As we started destroying them, two behir attacked us from a pool of acid at the lower end of the chamber. An odd beating heart was discovered in the ribcage, which Bedlam picked up and placed in a sack. At their defeat, a Hag appeared across the pool, demanded we return the heart, and cast a sleep on Griffin. She declared she was responsible for hatching the eggs, feeding the creatures on Godflesh. She also declared she knew that the wall was broken and had chosen not to care about it. She offered a caution that there was no Holy Sword for sale in the Night Market, but that it was a trap [See Case Report RJ-1034]. She offered us money and treasure to be left alone to her business. Our group backed up to discuss the situation. As the terrain was slimy and unstable, and she was isolated from us by the acid pool, we needed to discuss how besat to attempt an arrest of her. We backed out of the area, certain that she could hear us. However, we underestimated her range of awareness, and when we returned to the chamber, she and the remaining eggs were gone. Seeing no way to follow her, we left the area. After killing eight more worms, we found and latched shut an old rusty door. At this point, we returned to the station to rest for the evening trip to the Night Market [See Case Report RJ-1034].
Recommendation: A team must be sent to the wall immediately to strengthen and re-seal the area where the god-corpse lies.
Update: (Regula, 1st Week, 4th Day) The heart had attached itself to Bedlam through the bag it was carried in. Gilcrest cast a remove curse and it dropped off. Bedlam took it to the Morgue.
Update: (Regula, 2nd Week, 4th Day) Sgt Ortho arranged with Castles in the Sand to create a wall and door at the larva tunnel entrance.
We re-entered UnderSigil. The metal door had become unlatched. We re-closed it, and went back to baubau area, killing one of them and five dretch, even though Rithok and I were affected by a confusion spell, cast by a glabratzu. It offered the group what it called a helm of teleportation to leave it alone. We didn’t believe it, and were forced to kill it after it barked and knocked out Griffin and Voronis. We brought the head back. Josef impulsively put on the helmet, but we noticed no immediate effects. Teleportation did not work.
Update: (Regula, 2nd Week, 1st Day) Josef was found in bad shape at the Red Fist, having nightmares about the Hag and clutching the helmet. I took helmet and stored it away. We returned to Undercity, letting Bedlam and Simon scout ahead. Found another area of rotting flesh walls, with four larva worms. After killing them, Voronis and Griffin got into a near violent argument, and I was forced to use Harmony from the Rod to calm them down. Found and killed six more worms. Badly hurt, we used the remainder of our cures and continued exploring. Found a room full of webs, identified by Istvan as a bebolith lair. Rithok was webbed and Griffin poisoned. Istvan flew him out of battle to try saving his life. I used Griffin’s bastard sword, as mine could not harm the creature. We finally killed it, and left the tunnels. As we left, Sherman Foo of the Sensates met us, offering 1000 jinx per live worm captured for the arena.
Addendum: Istvan returned and reported that Griffin had died, and the raise dead had failed. Father Orlando was praying over the body.
Update: (Regula, 2nd Week, 4th Day) Griffin returned, brought back through the grace of St. Cuthbert and converted to our cause. Voronis has picked up an assistant, a female Cipher named Yelayna.
Update: (Regula, 2nd Week, 5th Day) We re-entered Undersigil with intent on capturing worms. Moving to the god’s ribcage again, we set off a pair of bombs in an attempt to drain the acid pool enough to permit exploration of a smaller tunnel. The Hag returned, attacking from the shadows above us and suggesting that Josef attack the dwarf. Six dretch and two glabretzu also attack. Simon was knocked unconscious, Rithok was slept, and Griffin was affected by a stinking cloud. She dropped a larva worm on us, which attacked Josef. Puff the maphit had followed us and blinded a glabretzu, then another worm was dropped. The Hag ran off, with Griffin in pursuit, but she escaped. We captured one worm, paralyzed and shrank it, and carried it outside to the cage via Bedlam’s flying carpet. Griffin cast a hold on Josef, and we tied him up, shrunk him, and placed him in a bag after Istvan informed us that he was now Evil (possibly a helmet by-product, the Hag’s work, or a combination). We decided to pick up the trail of the Hag later, and successfully removed the spell from Josef. After quizzing him using Griffin’s detect lie ability, we returned his items to him for now. In the Hag’s lair (in the god-skeleton’s skull) was a tunnel leading up, possibly to a building. We will explore this after completing the mapping project. Beyond the double doors we fought 5 worms (capturing 2), and six Trelons, killing 5 while one escaped. We left and arranged with Foo for payment for the live worms.
Update: (Regula, 2nd Week, 6th Day) We returned to gate around arena, finding it locked. Foo says the Hag made a contract with him to supply worms, and that our services are no longer needed. Since the Sensates own the site, there’s not much I can do at the moment. The exploration of Undersigil is finished for the moment, and I have submitted all relevant maps to the Barracks.
