Very little is known about Thomas McLoughlin. The parish register for Rathmolyon and Rathcore was destroyed by fire circa 1900 thus leaving little evidence for research. There is a Patrick McLoughlin recorded at Baconstown in the 1850s, close to the family home of the late nineteenth century. Patrick is therefore almost certainly the father of Thomas McLoughlin living from circa 1800 to 1865. Michael McLoughlin's first son was named Thomas Patrick McLoughlin, following the Irish tradition of naming the first born after his ancestors.
