El Dorado was home to humans, gargoyles, and Fey alike. A few Spanish missionaries had made their home in the City of Gold as well. Everone was peaceful and prosperous, until the Inquisition.
When the soldiers came and decimated the surrounding communities, the resident Fey and gargoyle and human sorcerors worked together to place El Dorado in a pocket dimension, hidden from the people of this world. It was a strenous spell used, and several El Doradans died in the process, however, the city was preserved in its secrecy. The people and others lived self-sufficiently, and not much was missed.
Until January 17, 1999, when a young southern archaologist stumbled, through some twist of fate, onto the pocket dimension...
