| I began shooting as a sport in1991, at the nice, ripe age of 45. I was sorry I didn't start earlier but shooting sports were not as popular in my youth; you usually leaned toward the garden variety sports such as baseball, basketball and volleyball (no football in Puerto Rico). Besides, strict gun laws left little, if any, to shoot if you were under 21. You must have a father who had a target shooting license and get you a "junior" license under his responsibility. Come to think of it, presently it is still the same even under a new law that is somewhat more lenient toward the shooting sport. Truth is that you see very, very few teenagers in pistol shooting competitions in the island. Anyway, I worked my way up the ladder toward the "Master" ranking and have enjoyed the sport eversince, sometimes competing every Sunday, sometimes taking long breaks from it, but always involved in some way or another. Presently, I am the secretary of the Barceloneta Shooting Club, a medium sized, well organized, club in the northern region of Puerto Rico (there are about 35 clubs in the island). Good shooters here, with a nice bunch of guys who had representes Puerto Rico in competition in other countries as well as in Camp Perry, with excellent results. Here is a list of my favorite or important links associated with the pistol shooting sport,in Puerto Rico and generally: |
