This year the All Star Game was a classic. The first inning lead off when Ichiro beat Randy Johnson to first base for an infield single, he then went on to steal second. Many people were wondering what would happen with Mike Piazza and Roger Clemens when they faced each other. Nothing happened, Mike Piazza flied out to left field. The AL finally got on the board in the 4th inning when Cal Ripken Jr. blasted Chan Ho Parks offering for a solo shot, making him the oldest person to hit a home run in an All Star Game. Freddy Garcia pitched a perfect inning and got the win. The AL scored 2 more runs in the 6th from back to back homers by Derek Jeter and Magglio Ordonez, and Ivan Rodriguez added and RBI single. The NL managed to score a run off Paul Quantrill but came up 3 runs short as the AL went on to win.

There was a funny moment when Tommy Lasorda fell over when being knocked down by a broken bat from Vladimir Guerrero, but he was okay. Before the game even started Alex Rodriguez showed some 'class' and made Cal Ripken play SS and he played third. When Ripken was removed from the game they had a ceremony for him and Tony Gwyn.

As for the rest of the Mariners, Mike Cameron got a double and John Olerud reached on an error. Edgar and Bret Boone failed to get a hit, but oh well, we still love them. Kazuhiro Sasaki pitched a shutout ninth and got the save.

    Way to go M's!
