Journey Home This week has been pretty heavy for me (heart not work), especially last 2 days due to flu and food poisoning. By faith i took leave today, went for my IPPT at Maju camp, and thank God i made it! I even got a ferry ride when a fellow IPPTers to boonlay! While i was walking home, i begin to noticed a man playing the guitar near the MRT. They have a word for it but just couldn't remember now. Suddenly it struck me that the man looks blind and he's playing christian songs with guitar and hamonica and singing! I found a comfortable spot, and begin to take some time out of my life to observe his playing. As i was watching how he plays, i discovered more and more people walked up to offer some gold or silver coins! I was then reminded of the below scripture .. Mk 12: 41 "Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood." People Giving I was greatly amazed by the people walking up to give. None of then were dressed sharply in office wear. Most dressed very casually in jeans etc. None was very old. One kid took the step. Most are common looking people like you and me. The most surprising thing is that even a bangladeshi walks up and give! If Jesus is in jurong point just now, one of the things i guess He will do is to grab a stool and sit near the place where the blind man is performing. As in mark 12, Jesus is greatly interested in watching how people give to the money box! When Jesus saw the poor widow putting in 2 mites, he immediately called all his disciples together. You can imagine his joy and amazement as he related that this widow, although she gave only 2 mites (i guess something very little during that time), she was the one who put in the MOST! How can that be? So many people gave that day and all surpasses this widow! How did Jesus came to his conclusion? King David Our textbook model, King David, who is commonly known as the man who follows God's heart, said this 2 Samuel 24:24 "But the king replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them. " Here is a situation when David wanted this particular field to build an altar for God. Araunah was so impressed that the king wanted his field, so he offered it FREE! Yet David said, "I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing." David only wanted to give God something that cost him, something that demands a sacrifice, and not something that just pinches his skin. Conclusion 2000 years ago, Jesus picked out this poor widow as someone who's giving touches Him. It may seem little in the eyes of the people around, but God certainly is impressed! 2004 years later, i sensed that this bangladeshi that steps forward to give has probably given the MOST! How much can a Bangladeshi earns? Lack is not lack when you are contented with what God has blessed you and fully make good use of them. God is not impressed with what the world believes as prestige or riches. God wants your heart, and wants it to be hard after Him! Last but not least, don't deceive yourselves. Put your treasure with God, and your heart will follow suit. Matthew 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Download TxT version (Right click - Save Target As) |
