Close-up photography of small objects (macro-photography) can be accomplished using macro rings. The use of these rings enables shooting to be made at a distance less than 0.6 m which is minimum distance for the standard lens. The rings are installed as required between the camera housing and the lens in a similar way that the lens is mounted. More than one ring can be attached together at the same time in which case the minimum distance to the object will be about 0.3 m if two rings are used.
When using the rings with the viewfinder hood an exposure time correction will need to be applied. It will be necessary to increase the exposure time found with the aid of an exposure meter in accordance with the data given in the table below.
| Macro
ring number (m) OR ring length in MM |
Increase
of exposure time found with the aid of a light meter (with lens set at 0.6 m) |
| 0.4m
/ 20mm |
2x |
| 0.35m
/ 40mm |
3x |
| 0.4m+0.35m
/ 60mm |
3.5x |
When using the TTL prism
viewfinder the longer exposure times are calculated automatically when
the macro rings are fitted.
*Note - For ease of use TTL viewfinder and metering
is recomended.
