previous day's entry December 13, 2005 next day's entry
I anticipated that today was going to be fantastic after learning that the DVD with video of Franklin and new photos had been Express mailed yesterday.   But after hours of jumping up at every car or truck that drove by our house, it became clear by 5 pm that the package was not going to be arriving today. One more day is not going to make a difference in the big picture but it sure was a let-down not to see him today.  All I can hope is that the package wasn't lost.  If only it had been FedEx.  I really don't think highly of the Express mail service of the USPS.

On a bright note, I made reservations for our visit to meet Franklin at Telma's Place in San Cristobal.  It sounds perfect.  It is a new suburb and a gated community 15 minutes outside of Guatemala City.  We will be staying in a Guest House with a family with children Franklin's age.  The home has a pool, a courtyard and we enjoy family-style meals.  Cristina (who adopted Noah from Marlborough, CT) recommended Telma's and one of the resident experts on one of my Guatemala Yahoo groups gave it the thumbs up.  I really didn't want Franklin to come to a big, fancy, intimidating hotel and I think this home-like environment will be so much better for him.  The Marriot and Radisson and others are very very popular and well thought of but most Guatemalan adoptions are infants and young toddlers.  I can see how that would be ok for a child that was a lot younger and less aware of his/her surroundings.

Fingers crossed that tomorrow will be the day that we get a much better glimpse into our little guy.  I am going to be crazy until the DVD arrives!!!
Good night!
