| Back in tha day, on June 7, 1975, when most niggaz was pimpin "Shaft" style, a star was born. The child waz named Allen Iverson by his mother Ann, after his biological father Allen Broughton. Ann had prayed for a boy to help support her in her poverty and desperation. Her prayer must have yielded "the answer", and she said "Thank you Jesus." Ann was only 15 years old at tha time and had just moved to Hampton, VA from da slumz of Hartford, CT. Upon returning to Hartford, Ann sparked up a phat J and did some contemplation. She concluded she didn't want to raize dis child in the slums of Hartford, around all da hoodlums smokin crack, cappin' one anotha, and gettin' chased by da 5-0 on tha regularz. Not to mention, his biological didn't bother. Allen Broughton stopped callin', got involved with another woman, and by the time young AI was 3, his father was out of his and his mother's life. Allen Broughton later died at age 30, when Allen was a mere 12. Meanwhile, Ann had become involved with another man, Michael Freeman, who would serve as Allen's surrogate father for much of his childhood. |
