Jan 2001  Scooter diaries cont'd
a full size British Privateer comes sailing around the other side of the walkway. After a little snappy banter between the Pirate captain and the British captain they commence firing canons at each other over the heads of the spectators. Pirates and sailors fall into the water, treasure chests burst open, masts break in half and parts of the ship (and hotel) explode into huge balls of flame (you can feel the heat from the walkway). Eventually the Pirates prevail (it is called Treasure Island not Jolly Old England, after all) and the British ship sinks into the lagoon with the captain valiantly going down with the ship. This is a FREE show to get people into the casino. Cooool.
Every day, a quick stop into the Casino Royal for a free Margarita (with out of state ID - and these baby's are strong)
we headed by monorail to the Belagio (The hotel named after Paula- You know Paula Belagio, my wife). The Belagio's schtick is that it is a high class place of culture (and gambling), with and art gallery of works by famous masters (Van Gogh, Rubins, etc.)(and gambling)
Out front is a lake. A huge man made lake (if they could move the Pirateships here (in a classy way) they could really have a battle, maybe add a few more ships and have 2 fleets battle each other) with what is probably my favorite free show in Vegas. Now I know it sounds simple but there is something about it. Over 200 water canons set up below the surface of the lake fire water up to 170' in the air and swirl it around, all choriographed to music. It is just cool. Water dancing around to Frank Sinatra's Luck be a Lady. You have to see it to understand. (I think it's every 1/2 hour until 11 or 12).

Off to the Tropicana for the free pull and a chance for tickets to the Burlesque show or the Rick Thomas magic show or... $250,000!!!! Well, we all win a pack of cards and one person wins a Rick Thomas ticket ( I want to see Rick because I've seen the Burlesque show twice - and after the first time they changed it so the free tickets are only good for the "family" version of the show and I mean non-topless burlesque - what's the point...really?). Through the Magic of Kick we manage to get 8 tickets for the burlesque show (unfortunately the last time this will happen as the powers that be seemed to get a little suspicious - Well, they're not topless anyway!) and Kick went around to arrange his usual front row center seats for us (and I do mean front row center - as in leaning on the stage - as in if the dancers sweated (which they don't because most of them are women and the rest are gay) we would get drenched). On the way out kick found another ticket to the magic show just lying on a one armed bandit. So now both myself and my lovely wife could go

After several winning craps games, late at night we headed to old Vegas for a bit more Craps. We played for awhile at the Plaza - as always good to us and then headed to the dinner for a bunch of comp meals.  By this point I was getting kind of drunk (big free Jack Daniels at the plaza) and the big heavy meal at 4:00 in the morning didn't really sit with me that well - but what are you going to do? I decided to call it a night and stated my intentions (we were playing at a table at the Binion's Horseshoe and it just didn't feel comfortable. We decided to play one more line and then get out of there. Well... we should have just left. That was the line that cost us half our winnings.

(Scooter never finished his story so Kick picks it up from here)  We still had two days left to get our winnings back, and things just kept getting better and better.  By the time we left Vegas we were all at triple our money.  Scooter decided to have us drop him off in Bakersfield, so that he could spend his winnings... in Mexico !  On the way out of the state we stopped at a stateline casino and won even more money.  Scooter went to Mexico, the rest of us went home.
