College
Update:
Man, i have not touched this page in
forever! i am now in second semester at University of Illinois!!! i
would not pass up this opportunity for anything. i absolutely love it
here, especially the people. the only thing i miss is the hills from PA.
:(
so you know how when you think of Chicago and Illinois, you probably see lots of
snow in the winter? yeah...well we just got our first snow fall of the
year here. it was only about 3 inches, too. needless to say, i'm a
little disappointed, but it's still aight.
i think it's funny how both my roommates go home just about every weekend
because they miss high school so much. me on the other hand, i don't go
home for about 5 months at a time, and i love it. i hadn't started to live
until i got here, and now that i am living, i am loving everything!
about my roommates- still the two best people ever. i swear, me and my one
roommate are like twins or something. she always keeps me on my toes.
Now about classes:
Physics 111: Even
though i really hate physics, i'm actually doing really great in this class. i
got an 83% on the first exam, which is good, considering the average was a
76%. yay! go me. :) i worked my butt off studying for that
though, so i really earned it.
officially: Lectures with demonstrations, discussions, and laboratory. For
students in engineering, mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Topics
include Newton’s Laws, work and energy, static properties and fluids,
oscillations, transverse waves, systems of particles and rotations
Chemistry 102: Chemistry! ahh...i love
chemistry. especially since this is stuff i learned in 11th grade.
officially: Lecture and discussions. Section B (Biological Version): Chemistry
of organic and biochemical systems, chemical energetics and equilibrium,
chemical kinetics, and reaction mechanisms. Section P (Physical Version): Chemistry
of materials, including organic and biological substances, chemical energetics
and equilibrium, chemical kinetics, and solids and crystals.
Chemistry 106: the lab that goes with chem
102. much fun, just not at 8:00 on friday morning.
Math 120: basically calculus. it's
really easy this time!
officially: First course in calculus and analytic geometry; basic techniques of
differentiation and integration with applications including curve sketching;
antidifferentation, the Riemann integral, fundamental theorem, exponential and
circular functions.
chemical engineering 161: the easiest class
ever. show up to class and you get an A.
computer science 101: well, i didn't mind
this class until the first test and machine project. it kinda sucks.
it's writing codes and all that fun stuff. my first mp took me about 20
hours to complete. :( we get to use matlab and c programming.
officially: Fundamental principles, concepts, and methods of computing, with
emphasis on applications in the physical sciences and engineering. Basic problem
solving and programming techniques; fundamental algorithms and data structures;
use of computers in solving engineering and scientific problems.
Track and Field: Third
in the Big-10!!
well, track has proven to be fun, but has also given its drama. indoor
season did not go nearly as well as i had hoped. in fact, i only jumped
heights that i got in ninth grade (5'0"). :( well, now i have a
different coach and am actually practicing with the high jumpers, instead of by
myself. so hopefully i'll do better this spring.
i love track though, because i've met so many awesome people through it,
especially someone who i met about 3 weeks ago. all these great people are
athletes, usually on the track team, which has given me the sense of
family. plus, we all study together, so if i ever have a problem with
homework, there's tons of people i can ask for help. i'd have to say the
benefits definitely make track worth while.
