electric fp guage install

This is info which was provided to me by Fred Injuneer. Please remember that not EVERY F-body car is identical, so take this information at face value.

Remove the core from the Schrader valve using a tire valve core tool.

Get an NOS part # 17535 "90deg -4AN ML-4AN FE swivel" fitting - about $15. This gets the connection aimed to the side, rather than straight up at the cowl, and prevents contact with the cowl as the engine torques under heavy load. This also allows you to aim the connection at a point where it won't interfere with anything, like the adjustment screw on an AFPR. Earl's make an equivalent fitting.

Whatever fitting you use at the Schrader valve, do NOT overtighten it. The connection to the fuel tubing is very weak, and will break off very easilly. Someone who broke his off told my that the Schrader fitting was not even brazed to the tube, only "swedged" on. So be careful.... it is an expensive part to replace, or have welded.

Now you have a -4AN male fitting pointed to the side. If you are mounting a small under hood gauge, you could probalby just get an adapter to go from -4AN male to 1/8" NPT female. Then the gauge would be attached directly to the tubing. Make sure the gauge can't hit anything if the motor moves 1/2" or so when it torques over.

If you are installing an in-dash electronic gauge, run a short braided S/S hose from the swivel fitting to a convenient location for mounting the pressure sensor. NOS make a 24" hose with -4AN on one end and 1/8" NPT on the other (part # 15230-1 blue fittings; 15230-2 red fittings). Then get a 1/8" NPT brass coupling at the local hardware or auto parts store and connect the gauge pressure sensor to the hose. The wire form the sensor can be run through the rubber grommet behind the stock computer.

If you want any other length hose, NOS make them, but they will have -4AN on both ends, so you will need adaptors to go from -4AN to the 1/8" NPT fitting on the sensor.
