"Come one you guys, let's go." Goku said, landing in front of Gohan
and Goten.
"What happened?" his eldest son asked. Goku shrugged.
"He wouldn't tell me, but it was something bad. I want you guys
to go home. I've got some things to do." His boys nodded, confused,
but they took off in the direction of their home. Goku gritted his
teeth. He'd never seen Vegeta so upset, whatever had happened, he
had to find out, and Bulma was the only person who'd tell him. He
took off towards Capsule Corporation.
Vegeta sighed as he watched Goku fly off. He knew exactly where he was going, and why. The corner of his mouth turned up in a resemblance of a smirk, but instantly faded into a frown. At least there was one person he could trust. But it wasn't the person he wanted. He sighed and swam deeper into the water, lost in his thoughts.
Bulma was sitting at her kitchen table staring at the newspaper in front
of her until the print blurred together in a meaningless jumble.
She couldn't stop thinking about Vegeta. Her heart ached at the thought
of him. The police had come after she'd called last night and taken
away Shiro's body. They questioned her but it was obvious that she
wasn't capable of the type of damage inflicted on the corpse. She'd
told them who'd done it but also explained who he was and that there was
no way in hell they could arrest him. No bars could hold him, no
police could subdue him. She just didn't want to get blamed for Shiro's
death and that was all. There was no point in looking for him.
They would never find him.
She was jerked from her reverie by a tap at the door. Bulma leapt
to her feet, hoping with all her heart that it was Vegeta at the door,
even thought she knew it wasn't. He never used the door, much less
knocked on one.
"Son Kun!" she cried, seeing Goku behind the door. But one look
at his grim face, and the happy exclamation died on her lips. "What
is it?" Goku ignored the question and swept past her, slamming the
door behind him.
"Sit down." He ordered. Bulma quickly obeyed and plopped down
on the couch. She'd never seen Goku look so.. disturbed or speak
so harsh. She felt fear growing in the pit of her stomach.
"What's wrong?" she whispered. He paced back and forth in front
of her before settling down and coming to a stop right in front of her.
"What did you do to Vegeta?" he asked quietly. Bulma lowered
her head, dread enveloping her. She couldn't lie to Goku, even though
she highly doubted that Vegeta had told him what happened.
"I.." she mumbled something so quietly even Goku couldn't hear her.
"What?" he snapped. Bulma's head snapped up, her eyes full of
tears. Goku felt sorry for her, but he had to know what was wrong.
"I.. cheated on him.." she whispered. Goku's eyes widened and
he fell back a step.
"What? Why on earth would you do that?" Goku cried, his voice rising.
"Why Bulma?" she started to sob, her whole body shaking.
"It was.. the only thing I could do.. to make him hurt like I have
time and again." She sobbed. Goku was shocked. He never expected
such a heartless action to come from Bulma of all people.
"After all the times Yamcha cheated on you.." he said. "You know
how it feels, how could you?"
"I don't know!!" she screamed, jumping to her feet. "I did it
to hurt him! I did it because he said he hated me and I believed him! I
did it because if he really loves me he wouldn't have done the things he
has!" she stared at the ground, her hands clenched into small fists.
"I know it was wrong, and I know he'll never forgive me because I don't
deserve his forgiveness." She began to cry harder. Goku felt his
throat tighten. He couldn't stand to see anyone in so much pain.
He drew her close and enveloped her in a hug, letting her cry.
"Shhh.." he whispered. She continued to cry for awhile and eventually
her cries died down to sniffles and hiccups.
"Would you take Trunks to see him? He really misses Vegeta." she asked
when she could talk again. Goku said that he would. "Tell him
for me, tell him I'm sorry. I know I don't deserve him. But
tell him I'll do anything.." she burst into tears again. Goku sighed.
He didn't know it was going to be like this. He felt torn between
his two friends, but he hoped that things would fix themselves.
"I've got to go. Where's Trunks?" Goku said.
"Outside, I think." Bulma sniffed. Goku released her and patted
her on the shoulder.
"Try to relax, Bulma. I'm sure everything will work out." He
smiled and left. Bulma sat back down on the couch.
"I hope your right, Goku. But this time, I'm not so sure."
Trunks sat in his little sand box playing with his little plastic animals.
He had taken small branches and stuck them in the sand and had a hose running
up to the edge of the sand box, creating a little waterfall and stream.
The branches looked like little trees as if he had created a tiny forest
for his toys. (I used to do this ^.^) Goku smiled as he walked up to the
boy.
"Hey Trunks, whatcha doin'?" the little boy looked up, brightening
as he saw Goku.
"Playin'." He said.
"You wanna go see you dad?" Goku asked. Trunks leapt to his feet,
a huge grin on his face.
"Yes! Yes!" he cried. Goku smiled, but he was sad that Trunks
obviously missed Vegeta so much.
"Did your pap teach you how to fly yet?" he asked. Trunks nodded
proudly. "Okay then, follow me." He hovered in the air, and
took off going slow enough so that Trunks wouldn't have to overly exert
himself. In about a half hour they were at the lake. Vegeta
was gutting a huge fish he'd caught next to a huge fire.
"Papa!!" Trunks cried flying into Vegeta's arms. Vegeta was caught
off guard and tumbled back with his son, the fish flying out of his hands.
"Trunks.." he murmured. He hadn't realized how much he'd missed
the brat until now. He wrapped his arms around his son and held on
for dear life. After awhile he pulled Trunks off of him. The
boy's shoulder was digging into his throat, making it difficult to breathe.
"Papa, why have you been gone so long?" Trunks asked, his eyes filling
with tears. Vegeta felt his heart constrict.
"Don't cry." He said. He wiped the tears off of Trunks' cheeks.
"You mother and I aren't.. getting along." Trunks sat in his lap,
Vegeta played with his silky hair for a moment, thinking of Bulma.
He frowned, he missed his son, to hell with pride, he could at least
admit it to himself.
"Why not?" Trunks asked.
"Don't worry about it. How did you get here?" he asked.
"I flew. Goku-san brought me here."
"Oh really? And where is that dolt I wonder?" He scanned the
area and spotted Goku halfway down the lake. He was glad the moron
had sense to leave him alone with his son. He smiled. "You
hungry?" Vegeta asked. Trunks nodded eagerly, licking his lips.
Vegeta grinned until he saw the fish. "Damn it!" it was covered in
dirt, and its guts were splayed across the ground. He wrinkled his
nose in disgust. "I'm not gonna eat this now. Well…" he looked
at Trunks. "You've caught fish before, right?" the boy shook his
head. Vegeta frowned. "Well, now your going to learn how."
Trunks grinned, jumping up and down.
Goku, Trunks, and Vegeta sat before the fire cooking six huge filets.
Goku had found the picnic basket he'd brought earlier in the day when he'd
gone fishing with Gohan and Goten. Apparently they'd forgotten to
take the basket with them. He pulled out a few lemons and a few bottles
of spices. He sprinkled lemon pepper and salt on each filet as it
roasted.
"Are they done yet?" Trunks whined. Vegeta gritted his teeth.
He hated when his son whined, he got it from Bulma. ::Err. Damn
her...:: he thought, he had tried all day not to think about her, but
now that he did, he couldn't stop. He hated to admit it, but he missed
her. He couldn't believe he was still bonded to her after what she'd
done. He shook his head with a sigh.
Goku had been watching Vegeta all night. He was glad that Trunks
was so happy to be with his father, and Vegeta's mood had definitely lifted
as well, but he could sense that the dark cloud hovering around the Prince
had returned. They ate in silence.
Trunks had fallen asleep in Vegeta's arms as they headed back towards
civilization.
"You wanna stay at my place Vegeta?" Goku asked. "I can take
Trunks home." Vegeta frowned, but nodded. He gave his son a
final squeeze and handed his son over to Goku. "Okay, just go to
my house then, I'll be there in a few." Vegeta simply nodded again.
He dropped down to the ground and decided he'd walk to the Son house.
Goku flew to his house as quickly as he could and when he got there
noticed that Vegeta hadn't arrived yet. He ran inside and found ChiChi
watching the news.
"ChiChi, I need to talk to you, it's really important." He said standing
in front of the tv. ChiChi patted the empty space on the couch
next to her and Goku sat down.
"What's wrong?" she asked, her features softened into concern.
Goku sighed.
"I invited Vegeta to stay with us for awhile." ChiChi frowned.
"Why? He and Bulma are still fighting?" Goku sighed again.
"If I tell you do you promise not to say a word to anyone?" he asked
seriously. ChiChi nodded. "Well, Bulma cheated on him." He
said, bluntly. ChiChi's eyes widened, her mouth open as a gasp escaped
her. Her hand shot up to her lips.
"No!" she said. Goku nodded. "I can't believe it! Why would
she do such a thing?" Goku shrugged. She'd had her reasons, but they
didn't seem good enough to him.
"I know Vegeta can be a tough guy, but I also know he would never do
a thing like that to her. I can't really believe it myself.
But I just wanted you to know. I didn't want you to be angry."
ChiChi smiled and patted Goku's hand, she leaned forward and kissed him
on the cheek.
"I'm not angry, Goku. He's your friend and you always do what
you can to help your friends. He can stay as long as he has to.
But, you two are going to have to help me with food. It's hard enough
to afford feeding three Saiyans. Four is going to be extra difficult."
"Hai ChiChi! We will!" he jumped up from the couch and
was about to go find Vegeta when he suddenly stopped. He leaned forward
and gave ChiChi a passionate kiss. "I love you ChiChi!" he said and
then raced out the door. ChiChi smiled and sighed, turning the TV
back on.
"I love you too, Goku."
