Swiming is
about touching the surface, Scuba diving is about deep
exciting discoveries.

An unforgetful trip on this
4th October... we meet the magnificent whale shark at
turtle bay dive site. We did not just have a short moment
with the whale shark, instead we had almost an hour
swiming side by side while it encricling our dive boat.
I don't believe my eye one
at first, because we know the whale shark is definately
around Redand Island at this season and we thought we
will never got this kind of luck to see one. My first
encounter with the whale shark was during my safety
stop at 15 feets, during that particular moment, my
buddy was shocked to see her cruising it's way towards
us.
|
 |
Both of us was excited and couldn't wait much longer to tell
the rest soon after our safety stop, at the moment our camera
wasn't with us and we were really upset because we know, no
one will ever believe that we saw the magnificent whale shark.
Well, come to our surprise that the whale shark did not go away,
instead it is circling our boat for quite some time.

Moment of life....
is a merely a sentence close to what I encountered. Yes...
a 15ft Shark. After surfaced from a 45 minutes dive, I
noticed that boatmen were screaming and shouting "Whale
Shark". As diver, I wouldn't wait for a single second
to start finning towards the boat, especially when I joined
the trip because it was the annual migration stop for
the whale shark in Redang. And knowing that the shark
is only going to stay for 3 weeks, I was very excited
at that particular moment as only the "lucky"
ones get to see this creature in the open sea. |
The next 15 second was the scare of my life when I suddently
saw a 15ft shark swimming directly towards me. The head itself
is about 3 feet wide and the eye was looking directly into mine.
It is no joke that I was stunt and so scare that I just panic
and eventually started kicking backward. Even with the top design
bio fin, I couldn't had possibly over swam the shark. Within
seconds, the shark was getting so close to me that it was berely
inches from me, and that's when it suddently turned. It turns
out that Whale shark is classified as "vegetarian".
It's harmless.... 15ft whale shark is only a baby of its kind.
A full grown one can be easily be more than 10 meters long.
The baby whale shark was so human friendly that it swam surounding
our boat. Some of us even jumped back into the sea only with
our wet suit and snookel to swim and "play" with the
whale shark. This is something magcifient that is not happenning
everyday. You will for sure see me on leave again this time
next year to meet my "whale shark" friend.
