The Shrinking Jhelum (Vyeth) crying for help.
This it means the ending of one great civilisation, which is age old. The lifeline of valley is slowly heading towards extinction.
It was shocking to hear and see the drastic condition of the famous River Jhelum, which is famous worldwide and rightly called the lifeline of Kashmir. History tells that on the same banks of this mighty river Jhelum (Vyeth) the name in (kashmiri) the first Kashmiri civilization was settled. The vyeth (Jhelum) is the most Sacred River, which serves all the purposes of Kashmir Valley, may be the Agriculture, Power, and Transport etc. It has given employment to Thousands of Fisherman who daily catch the big haul of fish. The famous (Kashar Gad/Traud Gad) are the products of this Mighty River. It serves the purpose of every Kashmiri and every Kashmiri feels proud for it and pays their thanks to the Almighty for Providing Such an Beautiful Treasure.
The Same River on whose banks the first civilization came to Existence is crying for help for saving it from being getting extincted. But No one is to save it as the people there have no concern to save this mighty river which is the most beautiful creation of the Mother Nature the bliss which the Mother Nature Has Showered On The Kashmir Valley. The Same River Has Fallen To the prey of Vested Interested People with no Senses who do not even think what will happen if the river perishes which is an jewel in the crown of Kashmir. If the same Jewel is removed from the crown than what is the fun of having such a crown because beauty in the crown is reflected due to the jewels, otherwise crown has no importance. On both banks of this mighty river, unauthorized colonies have mushroomed at greater rate with encroachments rising daily. The constructions are on the rise.
The trees have been cut and due to this, the beautiful look on both banks of the river is missing. The cutting of trees have poised an serious threat to the environment too as the results are before us .The forests have been cut at a very greater rate and if the same is not stopped I am afraid that the Kashmir will turn into hell in very short period of time with the natural beauty perishing at a greater speed. The climate in Kashmir has changed drastically in last 13 years and it is due to cutting of forests. The constructions on both banks of the Jehlum River are on the rise and the serious threat is that the Toilets have direct openings into this. All the dirt and drainage fell directly into this river which has created a serious threat to the river which pollutes the river and has caused serious threat to the Aqua life.
The Government organizations are showing no concerns about the same as the government there is not concerned about the welfare of Kashmir. They are only considered about how to fill their pockets rest they think hell with the environment. The people in government organizations are without brains. They have only one thing in mind how to grab the maximum money and how to save their chair. The people in government are behaving like blind and dumb which does not sees the outcome of the serious problem. The present generation in Kashmir, which is there, has no concerns about the same and about the serious environmental threat poised to the Kashmir. I am afraid that if immediate action is not taken this mighty river will get perished and the same river will be turned to the small Nullah (Drain) As the same which has happened with The great Dal lake which has shrinked a lot and is now spread our the few kilometers only which was once spread to hundreds of kilometers.
The present kashmiri people who are there are only busy in their so called Freedom Struggle without understanding the threat that is being poised to the Environment. Instead of taking effective measures in order to save the environment, they are wasting their time in this. I appeal to all specially to the common man of Kashmir please open your eyes and kindly rose above your personal interests work together for saving the natural treasures of Kashmir and help to stop in turning kashmir into hell from heaven save the environment. Stop cutting of trees. Grow trees and helps to return the greenery back to the paradise on earth. I appeal to all who love their motherland to think about the serious problem and work together in saving our precious natural Treasures.
The Jehlum has been converted into dustbin with 70% of city's waste being thrown into it. The houseboats are also adding to this problem, which are also mushrooming along the banks of the river with all their dirt and toilets being directly flushed into the Jehlum River. I appeal to all Government organizations and especially to common man to think seriously on this problem and design the drainage system accordingly so that dirt and dirty water is stopped from falling into this mighty river. The common man has to take this responsibility and he has to see that garbage is not thrown into this river along with the government organizations and help to attain the same status for Kashmir, which was fourteen years ago. I appeal to all Non Government Organizations kindly come forward and give their contribution for this noble cause.
In the end I remember the words which were engraved on the rock when you are on the way to Hari Parbhat. The lines in Kashmiri are as under.
(AAN POSHE TELE YELE VAN POSHE).
Its meaning in English is as under
(THE FOOD WILL BE STORED TILL THE FORESTS ARE PRESERVED)
SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT. SAVE THE WORLD
GROW MORE AND MORE TREES
