GREEN CHEMISTRY

Research activities : Major efforts in my research group are directed towards development of pollution control methodologies. In this area pollution prevention (Green Chemistry) is more dear to us rather than pollution treatment. We have been working with the following objectives:

To develop methodologies

  • to prevent/control waste stream of unused reagents/catalysts into drains,
  • to develop harmless solvent systems with low vapour pressure,
  • to develop catalysts capable of substituting traditional Lewis acids,
  • to develop conditions for the use of water as a solvent for organic reactions,
  • to develop supported reactants (supporgents) /catalysts to replace the traditional stoichiometric reagents/catalysts,
  • to develop dry technologies,
  • to use microwaves as energy input device for faster, cleaner reactions,
  • Areas of interest:

Heterogeneous catalysis, heterogeneous oxidations/reductions, microwave assisted chemistry, microwave catalysis, sub-critical water as a green solvent, process development, organic synthesis.
