I wrote this story out a couple of years ago. I was a big fan of the Sci Fi classic Quantum Leap. I always wondered why Scott Bakula was not cast as Mitch Leery, since Scott looks a hell of lot more like James Van Der Beek than Jon Wesley Shipp does. Then, when Rachael Leigh Cook guest starred on my favorite episode of Dawson's Creek, I thought I might just write some fanfic about behind-the-scenes of the filming of that episode. After doing some research, every single piece of the story puzzle fit into place nicely! Once I found out that Josh Jackson likes to play practical jokes on everyone, I used that as the main plot device for the story. After that, writing the story was very easy. I kept researching and found everything I needed for the story! The only small detail I didn't have was "What does James Van Der Beek eat for breakfast?" I asked on the WB's boards, no one knew the answer. I asked web sites for James, no reply. I asked Liz at dawsonscreek.com for six months, no reply. Finally, Host_Eve at dawsonscreek.com gave me an answer (she said, "he probably just finds something on the set"), and the rest is history! I even managed to get a copy of the actual shooting script to help with the story! There are three missing scenes in the script: The first is Andie's visit to her psychiatrist, the second is Andie yelling at Chris about the backpack (shown briefly in the clips of Dawson filming his movie), and the third is a scene in which Dawson and Devon KISS! I am still wondering if they actually filmed that or not!
Anyway, this is my first major fanfic attempt. I know it wasn't the best written thing I have done, but it was a true labor of love. Just like any writer, I wish this story could have been turned into an actual episode, it would have been one of the most unique episodes of the series.
