QUANTUM CREEK --  Part Nineteen

"Ah, no."  Al read off the hand-link.  "Once Rachael finds out that it was Josh that pulled her safely out of the water, she sort of loses interest in James, Ziggy says, at least for the time being."
"Then, will she get involved with Josh?"
"No," replied Al.  "Even though Joshua will take responsibility for what just happened, Rachael won't quite forgive him.  Besides, Ziggy's now predicting Rachael's new movie, 'She's All That', goes on to be a smash hit, so she goes onto bigger and better things in Hollywood."  Al paused, still reading the hand-link.  "Josie and the Pussy...  Josie and the...  Pussycats.  Josie and the Pussycats.  Yeah okay."
"If that's the case, what was I really here to do?  Josh is the one that saved Rachael.  I really didn't have much to do with it other than C.P.R. and anyone else could've at least tried to revive her and probably succeeded."
Al replied, "Ziggy says you were here to get Joshua to take lessons on proper rescue procedures, including C.P.R."
Sam reached James' truck.  He got into the truck and shut the door.  "Why is that, Al?"
Al appeared next to Sam in the truck.  "According to Ziggy's predictions, Josh saves two young ladies by the names of Buffy McConnell and Ali Ross next summer off the Macanboro Inlet.  The rescue training is supposed to come in real handy for that.  Josh turns out to be the real hero again," Al replied.
"Good," Sam said as he drove back to the studio gate.  "Let's go see when help is going to get here."
Looking down at the hand-link, Al added, "And Ziggy predicts that James' movie, 'Varsity Blues', will also be a hit.  Katie Holmes and Michelle Williams will go on to do a number of movie, Dawson's Creek runs for a total of six seasons, and Jason Behr will star in his own show called 'Roswell' on The WB next fall."
"That's great, Al."  Sam was satisfied with the final results.
"And there's more," Al continued.  "Ziggy isn't sure, but now says that James and Rachael will work together again on the set of a movie that will be called 'Texas Rangers'.  It's supposed to be released the following year."
"Are you sure they won't end up together?" Sam questioned.
Al pushed a few buttons on the hand-link again.  "Ah, Ziggy won't say, but you never know," Al replied with optimism.  "And I can tell by the look on your face that I was not the only one that liked Rachael Leigh Cook, Sam."
Sam only smiled and shrugged, but would not confirm for Al his attraction to Rachael.  "At least she's going to be all right."
Al nodded and both breathed a sigh of relief.

When the ambulance arrived, Sam lead them to the docks and then he immediately went to Rachael's side.  "Hey there," Sam comforted Rachael.  "How are you feeling?"
"My head hurts, my neck hurts, and I'm a little cold still," Rachael said softly.  "But Josh took good care of me."
"Please give us some room so we can do our jobs," one of the ambulance crew said to Sam.  He and Josh backed away as the ambulance crew took over.  Joshua was still soaked from his jump into the creek.  He quickly informed the ambulance crew what had happened, then stood next to Sam who was with the studio crew.  After Rachael was examined, Joshua was called over and informed on Rachael's condition.
"They're taking her to the hospital to run some tests and make sure she's all right.  They told me her neck isn't broken, but she might have a mild concussion.  I did keep her awake just like you wanted me to," Josh informed when he walked back to where Sam was standing.  "The ambulance crew also told me it was the correct procedure to not let her sleep."
Sam nodded and they both approached Rachael, who was now ready to be loaded into the ambulance.  Rachael saw Sam and Josh approach and smiled.  Sam took her hand when he got to her side.
"My hero," Rachael said to Sam again.  "I guess we won't be going out tonight, James.  Sorry.  But what I don't understand is why you're here on the set today?  I think Kerr told me this morning that you  didn't need to be here today."
"Yeah man," Josh said.  "You weren't scheduled for any scenes today.  You told me earlier this week that Kevin gave you the weekend off.  So what brought you here?"
Sam hesitated.  He did not want to lie, but obviously he could not tell the entire truth, Sam said to Josh, "Um, just think of it like I had a feeling I was supposed to put something right that could have gone wrong.  That's all I can say, I guess.  What matters is that Rachael's alive and should be all right."  Turning to Rachael, Sam said,  "And don't worry about breaking our date, Rachael.  I've got plenty of fan mail that has piled up all week that's going to keep me company tonight."
Rachael smiled at the bad joke as she was about to be put into the ambulance.  One of the ambulance crew said to Sam and Josh, "Sorry.  We can allow the young lady to ride with just one of you in the back of the ambulance.  I'd like to make an exception for the stars of my daughter's favorite show, but I can't."
"You go, James," Josh insisted.  "You're the hero here."
Rachael's smile grew wider and Sam could see a certain fire in her eyes.  It was at that point that Sam knew without a doubt that he had fallen head-over-heels in love with her.  Those gorgeous eyes of Rachael's were so inviting, Sam thought, but he knew what he had to do but hesitated for the longest moment.  Standing there next to Rachael, he just wanted to kiss her.  Sam wanted kiss Rachael, ease her pain, and have the happy ending he never gets to have when he leaps.  But he knew it was not meant to be, not on THIS leap anyway.
"Josh is the real hero here, Rachael," Sam assured.  "He pulled you out of the water.  He brought you to shore.  He helped revive you.  He stayed at your side all this time.  He even got you the towel that's wrapped around you right now.  Josh should go with you."
Rachael's face registered a look of disbelief, then a look that showed she realized what Josh had done for her.  She took her eyes away from Sam and smiled at Josh.  "And I thought 'Dawson' was the real hero of the show, 'Pacey'."
For once, Josh was at a loss for words.  He simply held her hand and smiled back at her.
"Go," Sam said to Josh.  "Call me from the hospital and let me know how she's doing.  Maybe while you are there, you can sign up for some C.P.R. classes."
"Or I can take some lifeguard training, if they have it.  You can't learn everything in life from just watching 'Baywatch'," Josh joked.  "I'm just glad I watched enough 'Rescue 911."
Rachael laughed at this as she and Josh got into the ambulance together.
"Too bad they don't end up as a couple, Sam," Al said as the ambulance left.  "They would have been dynamite together."
Sam smiled as an all too familiar tingle ran through his body, signifying the end of this leap.
"And it's finally time for me to leap-out," Sam said as Al nodded.
The blue aura surrounded Sam again as it always does and he leaped again --
