Frequently Asked Questions

“Who, or what is ‘WHATS’ ??”

WHATS stands for ‘We Here At The Site’.  This is a very cunning and clever…thing…put in to make the website seem bigger than it actually is.

“Why do you need so many keyboards?”

Mainly because each keyboard has its own characteristics, and is capable of making sounds that other equipment may not.  Also, each keyboard can be set up with different sounds for one song, eliminating the need to change sounds during songs.  Some gear cuts the sound off when you change sounds, this sounds unprofessional, and is frustrating in a live show.

“Which piece of gear is your favorite?”

The Roland JD800 and Korg SP500 because of their sound and versatility, and the Sycologic M16 MIDI Matrix because it does everything else!

“Do you read and write notation?”

Yes, when I have to!  I prefer to work by ear, however it is handy to be able to jot ideas down on a sheet of manuscript, to read later.  I also notate small ‘key’ sections to songs for live purposes so that I remember to play them correctly!

“Which of your own songs are your favorites?”

‘Enemy Within’ for it’s power,

‘Way Out Of Nowhere’ for its popularity,

‘Test Of Strength’ for the challenge,

‘Two Worlds Collide’ because it rocks,

‘Digitise’ for its complexity.

“What music do you listen to away from your own stuff?”

I like various Metal: Pantera, Sepultura, Killswitch Engage, Metallica,

I like various Rock: Queen, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Tea Party,

I like a bit of Jazz: Fourplay, Pat Methany,

I like Classical: Mozart, Bach, Beethoven,

I like various Progressive: Yes, Arena, Threshold, Genesis, Porcupine Tree, Rush, Dream Theater.
