July 9th, 2002. Well here I am in the old country (as we aussies like to call it). My good buddy Lleyton asked me to come over for Wimbledon, and as I was heading this way for the Games anyway, I thought why not come a bit earlier and watch some tennis first. I'm so glad I did, as may I modestly say, I was able to give Lleyton some good advice prior to the men's final. I can't repeat what I said, but, well he did win, didn't he. I was also honoured to be asked to toss the coin before the ladies final. Big girls those William's sisters, but very nice to me all the same. Then the following day, Lleyton insisted on everyone bowing to me, I'm not sure why, perhaps it's because I'm the first gnome to visit Wimbledon. And then he made sure I was in the official photo's and even wore my hat for one of them. What a mate. Not long now 'til the Commonwealth Games begin. I'm so looking forward to it. I'm going to try as many different sports as I can. See you then, Kev. PS Might look up my good friend Beryl while I'm here. |
