FUN IN THE CITY........
28th April, 2002
Ahhh.... Sydney. What a place. Tourist attractions galore.
The Opera House, The Rocks, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Harbour itself.
Is there a better city for a weekend away.
The beaches are great for surfing, something I've always wanted to try.
Or a spot of sailing around the harbour, again something I wanted have a go at.
Or climbing the bridge (affectionately known as the old coathanger).
The choices are endless.
So I gathered my gear and off I went.
First stop Manly Beach.
Someone suggested a body board would be more my size, but I decided to use the real thing, a long board. A few lessons later and there I was, hanging ten.
In the afternoon I headed back into the city.
Then it was on board the "Kevin", and a quick whiz around the harbour, with a few stops for photo's.
The next day I headed for the spot where good old Jim Cook landed in 1770. An excerpt from
his diary read "Saturday 28th April, AD 1770,
At daybreak we discovered a bay and anchored under the south shore, about two miles within the entrance, in six fathom water."
To think, I was standing on the very spot, 232 years later. WOW!!!
I took a flying visit to the Sydney Aquarium, and then decided to go to Taronga Park Zoo in the afternoon.
Then it was a very weary little gnome, who hopped onto a plane and headed back to Brisbane. I wished I'd had more time, but I can always come back later on.
Kev.
