Well, here I am, back in Oz.
After the excitment of the Oscars, I wondered what I could do next.
I do plan to attend the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in July, but what to do in the meantime.
On the plane coming back from LA, they showed the movie, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Seeing the wonderful scenery, made me
decide on my next venture. A trip to the red centre. Question: Is there such a thing as a desert gnome? I decided to find out.
So I packed my swag, hitched a ride to the Top End, and so began my journey. I headed off down the Stuart Highway, through Katherine, onto Tennant Creek, first stop, The Devils Marbles. Had a bit of a poke around, then I was off again. Passed a GIANT termite mound, we grow 'em big here in Oz, then caught a rather unconventional ride with one of the locals.
Off we headed, through Alice Springs and and onto Uluru (Ayers Rock in old speak).
You honestly don't realise how big it is until you stand at the base.
Of course I had to climb it, (I believe I may be the first liberated gnome to do this), and also walked around the base.
Finally, to answer my question, I didn't meet a single gnome, unless they are all so covered in red dust that they blend into the landscape.
Now I'm back in Brisbane and wondering, "where will I go next??".
Kevin.
