| Yes it happened! Kraut reformed for two nights at their former residency at CBGBs. It was a NY Thrash Compilation punk/hc festival which included Adrenalin Overdose, False Prophets, The Mob, The Misguided, Even Worse, The Nihilistics, and more. Of course, the highlight for myself was when my very good amigo Doug Holland invited up on stage for a chorus sing a long for "All Twisted" (I've got it on video along with Kraut's amazing performance!) Davey was a consummate musician as usual and the rest of the band was fucking fantastic. Davey Gunner is a superb frontman and he really knocked them dead last night. Getting to sing onstage with him was an honor- a real privilege - he's great. | ||||||||||||||||||

| The bass playing by Don Cowan was dynamic - in fact Johnny Feedback came 3,000 miles for this gig to create an awesome rhythm section. I know it seems I'm ranting on and on but you had to be there - punk rock - REAL punk rock is rare and this festival was the real thing. Doug Holland was using a custom Les Paul that I've seen before - he may have used it at the Cro-Mags reunion at CBGBs a short while back. A beautiful black guitar. One of a kind! The bass Don played was a vintage Fender - similar to one of my own; I just love 70s Precision Bass Guitars. I heard talk there was a difference in Kraut's sound on Friday as opposed to Saturday but I was there on Saturday and it sounded perfect. As perfection is. Also: I was speaking to Vanessa, Daughter of Satan, and I hope she writes a good article for the NY Waste about the show... If only Kraut could reform, Davey, Doug, Johnny and Don once again making serious new material - it may be a dream but some dreams are beautiful and we are talking serious punk rock here! Many faces from the past reappeared... I saw characters I haven't laid eyes upon for over a decade - some even more. It was incredible- like Doug said - the energy that flowed at CB's on Saturday (and I'm sure Friday as well) was of a unique nature - entirely good, from the heart. Kraut, of course, played an excellent selection from their impressive song list - and ended the set with a very cool audience participation number; "Bodies" by the Sex Pistols of whom, as we all know, Steve Jones, with his band The Professionals, used to play gigs with Kraut on a regular basis in the early 80s - what a time! Well I'll end this now and I have to say one thing: if and when Kraut reforms again - Be there. You won't be disappointed. Kevin Sewage |
