Furry Farm Benefit Show at Umbrella House
by Kevin Sewage
This show took place in the depths of Alphabet City (which is in the Lower East Side NYC for those who don't know) way down on Avenue C. Of the numerous bands slated to appear, the
ones that did show made the benefit a worthwhile event. If you're wondering who did the kitty cat artwork, which surrounded the stage area, seats, and all else, the answer is this: it was Kembra, the lead singer for The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black... I was there whilst she dashed out all of the artwork and decoration for the gig... very cool. Of the bands that performed, Animal Clinic, as expected, were smooth and as precise as can be. Siobhan, Ena, and Janet did a great service to those felines in need. As for The NY Kretins, we played as usual
without rehearsing - not my choice! - but Ronnie and Richard Hutchins came through the sauna-like conditions (was it 95 or 100 degrees? ha ha) of the gig and went through our set like there was no tomorrow. Of course, in NYC anyway, our set was the first advertised tribute to Dee Dee and we covered "I am Seeing UFOs" (Zonked!) as well as a number of other Ramones classics... the Kretins usually always cover "Love Kills" off of Animal Boy, which we all know was written and sung by Dee Dee.    As I was leaving, Roadkill, a band whose drummer's name is Mike Sewage (!!!!!!!) -- sorry to interrupt, but I will tell those who care in time the story of how I got the name Kevin Sewage (it was a "present" from Dee Dee), but that's another story soon to be on the page for Dee Dee. -- Unfortunately, I was leaving so I didn't get to hear their set but will probably get to in the future. All I can say, is that I hope some unfortunate cats got some help from this event
Ena Paul Kostabi hammers out a solid percussion with Animal Clinic. He was a trooper that night as he sweated it out in the thermo-furnace of Umbrella House. It was a great show.
Go Ena!!!
Below: Janet, the new and feisty guitarist for Animal Clinic, is captured by Ronnie's computer-camera in the doorway of Umbrella House...              Go Janet!!!
Sorry, no pics of The NY Kretins here... They seem to have been erased by angry hackers and I can't seem to get them back. Anyway, The Kretins are not a vain band and really don't give a fuck... So you'll have to wait for the next show because our photographer was kidnapped and held for ransom during our set at CBGBs... the ransom, however, was met (it was a measly $11.00) and that photo op was missed. As the Anti-Nowhere League have so eloquently put it... "SO FUCKING WHAT!"
