The 'Prins Filip' sailed from 15-05-1992 till 28-02-1997 for the RMT. The ship sets a new standard of luxury and it was the largest ferry ever
build by the Belgian government on their own yard at Temse. The ferry was named after the present Belgian Crown Prince Filip, son of King Albert II.
Unfortunately it was also the last ferry for the RMT. The
milliard ship was not able to turn the tide. The Government link between Belgium and England went bankrupt.
The 'Prins Filip' left Ostend for the last time on 25 april 1997 on it's way to Dunkirk (France),
where she waited for some time for a new owner, finally it became Stena Line AB. For a while she operated as the 'Stena Royal'.
Now the ship sails, since 1 november 1999, for P&O Stena Line as the '
Aquitaine' between
Dover and Calais. The ship is also still flagship for this company. A reconversion of the ship in 1999 increased her capacity. |
