| Duke of Edinburgh Dogsledding Trip Notes/List | |||||||
| Clothing It is important to keep warm and dry when winter camping. The best way is to follow the Layering System. First Layer - Long underwear (wicks moisture away from skin and keeps you dry Second Layer - Insulation (Sweater, fleece, warm pants, etc.) Third Layer - Outer shell - Blocks out wind and wetness. Keeps first two layers dry. Packing List Boots - no regular hiking or ski boots. Must be appropriate for task. Boots such as Sorels or Baffin Technology are excellent because they have removable liners which can be dried out at night. Stores such as Marks Work Wearhouse and Canadian Tire have a great selection. Pants - 1 inner pair: fleece pants/nylon (NO DENIM!) 1 outer pair: waterproof - ski pants/Gore Tex pants would be great Sweaters (2) Hat/Gloves (2 each) Neck/Face Protection Sleeping Bag Jacket Socks (wool will keep you warm, cottone will not) Long Underwear (2) Flashlight Toiletries (No makeup please) Sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses Ski Goggles (optional) Hand and foot warmers (preferred) Camera (preferably disposable) Garbage bags Duffel bag/Backpack, etc. for carry gear (for waterproofing clothes and keeping them dry) Information for 2004 Dogsledding Trip Departure: Thurs.
