Breanne emerged from her bedroom around ten that morning and took a long shower.  She tried not to think about the kiss with Kevin last night, but she kept imagining his lips on hers.  She hated herself for still being infatuated with him.  She knew it wasn't healthy to lust after her best friend, but she couldn't help it. She was an attractive woman, that dated occasionally. But the men she dated never seemed to fulfill her.  There was a certain element missing in most of her relationships.  Many of her friends jokingly said she was comparing other men to Kevin, but she of course knew it wasn't true.

After changing clothes, Breanne walked back into the living room to check on Kevin. She noticed he was still peacefully sleeping on the couch, snoring. Breanne decided to fix a pot of coffee and cooked breakfast. About twenty minutes later, Kevin stumbled into the kitchen to see Breanne preparing some pancakes. Breanne turned around to see Kevin's eyes bloodshot, his hair more rumbled, and his clothes wrinkled.  "I see you decided to wake up." she said.

Kevin walked over and hugged Breanne. Breanne smelled Kevin, and he still reeked of alcohol.  She suggested he'd shower while she finished breakfast. "Am I that bad?" Kevin mumbled.  He then sniffed his shirt, and ran to the bathroom.

While Kevin showered, Breanne set up for breakfast. And she kept thinking about last night. She wondered if Kevin even remembered kissing her. She hoped he did, but then she thought about how awkward it would make him feel. She didn't want to compromise her friendship with Kevin.  Soon after, she knocked on the bathroom door and informed Kevin he left spare clothes in her bedroom.

"I'll be out in five minutes." Kevin yelled and continued his shower. Minutes later, Breanne and Kevin ate breakfast. Kevin noticed Breanne was being awfully quiet. He also noticed she wasn't looking at him directly. Finally he asked her what was wrong.

"It's nothing. I'm just thinking." Breanne responded. Kevin was curious and tried to get Breanne to talk. "I'm just thinking about last night. I mean a lot of things were said, and something happened..." Breanne said, right before looking away. "You were just so depressed, then you started drinking and..."

"Did I say something to offend you? Did I start another argument with you?" Kevin asked. He reached for Breanne's hands, and kissed them. "Look I'm so sorry if I said anything that was really stupid. You know I get belligerent when I drink." Kevin said rapidly, right before Breanne stopped him. She assured him he didn't say anything horrible to her. Kevin then sat there confused. He tried his hardest to remember what happened the night before, but couldn't. "Wait! Then what happened?" he asked, "because my mind is a total blur. I practically drank those two cases on my own. And I don't remember a damn thing."

"You don't remember?" Breanne asked. She was shocked. She couldn't believe that Kevin did not remember trying to seduce her. She knew things were too good to be true. "You can't remember anything at all?" She asked again. Kevin assured her he didn't remember anything after sitting on the patio. Breanne then sighed, and looked away from Kevin. Kevin felt that Breanne was hiding something from him, and asked her to tell him what exactly happened last night.  Breanne looked into Kevin's eyes and her thoughts became scrambled. She debated whether or not to be honest with him and to tell him that he actually almost ravished her. But then she searched into his eyes more and saw his poor soul. She knew she couldn't tell him what happened. She didn't want him to be stressed anymore than he already was. "Kev, don't worry about it. Nothing dramatic happened." Breanne said. She tried her hardest to sound convincing, but it took every bone in her body. She then flashed a smile, and brushed one of Kevin's eyebrows.

They finished breakfast, and Kevin left to go back to his place. Breanne groaned as she watched Kevin drive away. She knew that one day she would have to tell Kevin the truth, but knew it wouldn't be anytime soon. A few minutes later, Breanne's phone rang and it was her other good friend, AJ McLean. He was also an ex boyfriend, but after their romantic relationship ended, he became more like a brother.

"Hey sexy. You still hanging out with me today?" AJ asked.  Breanne groaned because she forgot she made plans with AJ to have lunch with him and to spend some time with him. "You forgot again, didn't you?" AJ asked.

"Yeah, I'm sorry. There's just been so much going on. My mind has been kind of scattered."

"Don't even stress it! I'll be there in an hour to pick you up." AJ said right before hanging up.

Breanne washed the dishes, and changed into a pair of jeans and a baby blue halter top. Shortly after, AJ picked her up and they both headed to a local mall. Breanne kept thinking about Kevin, and the events from last night.

AJ was sensing Breanne was troubled somehow and called her on it. "You thinking about Kevin again?" He asked.

"Is it that obvious?"

"Well, I know how you are when you're thinking about him. You got this glazed look in your eyes. Plus you got this cheesy ass grin on your face." AJ said right before poking Breanne on the nose.  "You tell him you love him yet?"

"God no! You think I'm crazy." Breanne said. She then looked down at her feet, and sighed.  "Something weird did happen last night though." AJ grinned and begged Breanne to tell him what happened.  "Well Kevin came over last night.  He was upset about Rachel, and thought maybe she was cheating on him. And like the dumb ass friend that I am I told him not to stress the situation.  Then we went out the patio and drank beer, which is a usual thing for us you know."

"Would you get to the damn point?" AJ said.

"He kissed me!" Breanne blurted out.  AJ stopped walking and his eyes grew big. AJ could not believe what he heard.  "Yeah, he looked at me weird, and the next thing I know we were on my floor kissing. And his hand was up my shirt, and I stopped him."

"You what?!" AJ asked. "Are you crazy? You've been craving that moment since you met him, and you told him to stop."

"AJ you don't understand. I mean it was great that he was kissing me and touching me. But then I had this feeling in my heart that it just didn't feel right. It wasn't cool that he was shit-faced, and I know for a fact he was still thinking about Rachel." Breanne said.  "I figure if he's going to be with me. I want him to completely be concentrating on me."

"I understand Bre. But you know that one day you're gonna have to tell Kevin how you feel." AJ said.

"AJ, you know I have a rule that I can't date friends. I tried that once remember." "And look how close me and you still are." AJ said. He knew that Breanne was still a little shaken up after her and AJ broke up. They started to date when Breanne did her first tour with the Backstreet Boys, but realized that they were too great of friends to pursue anything romantic.

"You're scared the same thing is going to happen with Kevin. But Bre, things are totally different.  He's good for you. He's a better guy for you than I am. Plus I know you're madly in love with him.  You weren't in love with me."

"I know. But I'm tired of chasing someone who is oblivious to what's going on around him. I mean I love Kevin to death, but sometimes he's just retarded when it comes to matter of the heart." Breanne said. AJ laughed and hugged Breanne. He then told her how beautiful she was, and that one day her prayers would be answered.  "Alex, don't be so confident. I'm not trying to stay optimistic about this Kevin thing. I'm just going to keep being a good and perceptive friend to him, and not worry about my own desires.  I just want my friend to be happy."

"And he would be happy with you." AJ said.  "But since you're not going to purse this thing, I can always buy you a BOB"

"I don't want a battery operated boyfriend you son of a bitch." Breanne said right before punching AJ in his arm. Breanne and AJ looked at each other quickly and continued to walk around the mall.  Around four thirty, they went to a small bistro for lunch. AJ agreed to pay for Breanne, and they continued to talk.  During their meal, Breanne kept noticing someone staring at her. He was an attractive stranger with short dirty blonde hair, soft hazel eyes, and was dressed in a nice T-shirt and cargo shorts. He kept smiling at Breanne, making Breanne blush.

AJ noticed Breanne blushing and looked back at the stranger. "Looks like you have a little admirer there." AJ said.

"Don't be ridiculous." Breanne said as she looked away and tried to finish her soda. "It's no big deal."

"If it's no big deal, why the hell is he walking over here?" AJ said as he noticed the stranger walking over.

The stranger finally approached the table and looked at Breanne. His eyes met hers, and Breanne was dazed. "I usually don't do this, but I wanted to tell you that I think you are the most beautiful person I've seen in a very long time." The stranger said right before extending his hand to Breanne.  "I'm David by the way." Breanne shook his hand, but shyly introduced herself. "Well Breanne, I know I might be being really forward, but would you like to have dinner with me tomorrow?"

Breanne hesitated in giving him an answer. The dates she usually went on were horrible, because most of the men she encountered were self-centered.  "I'm not so sure."  AJ then kicked Breanne's shin underneath the table. "Alexander!" She yelled.

"Breanne's just really shy. She doesn't have plans tomorrow night." AJ said.  "Isn't that right Bre?"

Breanne groaned and flashed a fake smile to AJ. She then looked at David and agreed to have dinner with him tomorrow night. They then exchanged numbers, and David planned on calling Breanne tomorrow afternoon for more details.

Once David left, Breanne and AJ left the restaurant and Breanne punched AJ in his chest. "God! Why did you set me up on that date?" She yelled.

"I was doing you a favor. Look you're moving closer and closer to being one of those crazy old women with old newspapers, no husband, and lots of cats." AJ said.

"I don't even like cats."

"That's not the point. What I'm saying is that you're a beautiful woman. Normal beautiful women go out on dates, and have men fawning all over them. But you instead are acting like you're a
lesbian."

"Hey now! We both know that shit isn't true. It's just that relationships scare me." Breanne replied.

"I know, but look you gotta lift your head up, and move on. Plus it's a measly date.  It can't be as bad as our first date."

Breanne started laughing and remember that her first date with AJ was horrible. He was two hours late. He took her to a lousy karaoke bar, and tried to sleep with her by the end of the night.  Breanne reacted by punching him in his face, and broke his sunglasses. But she was also surprised when he called her the next day, and wanted to see her again. "Yeah, I doubt he'll take me to a bar where there are breasts in my face, and an off-beat Japanese man trying to sing "Hit me baby one more time". Jesus! That was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life."

AJ laughed, and told Breanne to give David a chance. Breanne groaned, but surrendered.  "Good! I thought we would have to make a trip to the Pink Banana boutique for a battery operated boyfriend." AJ said.

"AJ you can lick my clit!" Breanne replied.

"Been there, done that sweetheart!"

Later that night, Breanne was alone at home watching a movie when her phone rang. "Run your mouth." She answered.  Kevin was on the other line, sounding strangely happy. "Okay what kind of drugs did you get your hands on? Wait, you've been drinking again." Breanne said.

Kevin only started to laugh, and explained that Rachel was coming over.

"Why are you so happy though? Usually if you two are around each other, you guys argue."

"Well she called me, and suggested we have dinne together. She said she missed spending time with me, and wanted to make up for all the lost time." Kevin said.  He was in his dinning room lighting some candles. "I think things are going to work out for us. We'll have a romantic dinner. We'll talk about our relationship, and hopefully things will be smooth."

"I hope things work out for you. You sure you're going to be okay right?" Breanne asked.  She was afraid that Kevin was being a little too eager. She was glad he was being optimistic, but whenever he was optimistic he would be disappointed somehow. "I just want you to be happy Kevin."

"I know, but don't worry. I think things will work out. So I won't see you until tomorrow probably." Kevin said.  "So what exactly are your plans for tomorrow?"

"I have an audition, and a date."

"You have a date?" Kevin asked.  "What's wrong with him?"

"I don't know, but AJ persuaded me to do this."

"You nervous?"

"About the date or my audition tomorrow?"

"Both actually." Kevin asked.

"The audition is no big deal. It's for the new Justin Timberlake video anyway. I'm more nervous about this date though. It's the first date I've been on in four months. And I don't want to give him the impression that I'm some crazy bitch or something."

"Well sweetie, he'll figure that out eventually." Kevin said right before laughing. "But seriously. This date will be good for you. I mean a gorgeous girl like yourself deserves to be happy romantically too."

Breanne blushed, and smiled.  "You really think I'm gorgeous?" she asked
coyly. It always made her feel good whenever Kevin would compliment her. They also sounded so sincere, and made her heart warm.

"Of course. You know I only tell you the truth." Kevin said. He then heard someone knocking at his door. "Listen I gotta go! Rachel's here. Good luck with your audition tomorrow, and good luck with your date." Kevin said right before hanging up.

Breanne hung up the phone, and groaned.  She started to think about what exactly Kevin and Rachel would probably be doing. She figured they would have dinner, then get into an argument, then have lots of make-up sex. She was actually a little jealous of Rachel, because she wanted to be in her position. But she knew Rachel didn't truly appreciate Kevin.  She didn't understand how caring he really was, how sweet he was. She figured Rachel only was in love with Kevin, the Backstreet Boy. Breanne knew more about the real Kevin. She knew about the Kevin that would go out with her to clubs, or spend time with her while watching movies. She knew he was a great guy. In many ways she despised Rachel. Rachel was a needy and insecure girl that caused nothing but grief to Kevin. But Kevin always gave people the benefit of the doubt, and he was blinded by Rachel's intense sexuality. "I just hope he doesn't get the bitch pregnant." Breanne said. She continued to watch her movie, wondering what was going on with Kevin.
