The Federated Commonwealth was reforged under a tyrannical Katherine Steiner, new realms were appearing across the Sphere, and the First Lord was preaching the glory of Capella while using the Star League forces to conquer free worlds. When given the office, Hohiro Kurita realized that as yet the new Star League lacked symbols, a focus for its citizens. Each realm had its symbols, The Capellans had Xin Sheng, The Free World's League its Knights of the Inner Sphere, The Federated Commonwealth its sword and glove, while the Draconis Combine had more symbols then could be named. The Star League only possessed a recreation of 300 year old symbols, ones that had fallen and been reborn but nothing to now unify its citizens, to rally its troops. Hohiro petitioned for several new constructs to serve that role, a new hall built on Tukayyid, a new class of jumpship to serve as a command vessel, and a new mech to bring all the troops together. It was decided to name that mech after the most famous general of the Star League, General Alexander Kerensky. For the Kerensky, Hohiro had to search long and hard to find a group to build the unit. He feared that having any facility associated with a house would lead to strife over the right to produce such a unit. Likewise Comstar facilities could not produce it, their reverance for the General would lead to endless modification and improvement to make a perfect unit, something that could never be accomplished. A periphery state was out of the question, they would have no resources to produce such a unit. From the handfull of independent manufactures that left Hohiro chose the Sons of the Dragon R&D for the success of their Hades model omnimech, already seeing duty with the Star League Defense Forces. The requirements for the Keresnky were strict requiring over a year to complete. The Star League wanted a heavy mech with the ability to keep up with light units, coordinate up to a reinforced lance, maximum armor, weaponry enough to stand against a Clan mech, the ability to display the newest technology, serve in any arena with maximum success, and an appearence to inspire troops. The requirements all but necessitated the use of an Omni-mech though it also inspired the use of the latest experimental technology being produced. The Kerensky was kept under the strictest security during its creation, even Hohiro's advisors were not allowed to see plans. Its first public appearence came in late 3064 at a public gathering on Tukayyid. Since then it has shown itself more then up to the task presented to it. At current, no forces except the SLDF use the Kerensky. Clans Wolf in Exile and Nova Cat have both approached the Star League about purchasing the plans to produce their own version. Varients The Base model Kerenksy uses a GM 300 rated engine providing a maximum normal velocity of 64 kph. To save weight it uses the newly created Light model engine which provides a greater security against being disabled by a lucky shot. 12.5 tons of armor provides enough durability to survive the strongest weapons. Triple Strength Myomers allow the speed of the Kerenksy to increase to over 80 kph when necessary while the C3i system allows for unit coordination. No configuration of the Kerensky is meant to fight alone but rather weaken an opponent for its lance mates or finish off an already weakened unit. The Primary configuration focuses heavily on long range ability. A Gauss rifle serves as the primary weapon for this configuration offering a single knock down punch with enough ammo for sustained firing. An ER Large Laser and LRM 10 provide good back up for the system allowing it to pepper an opponent before it can close to range. An Active Probe and ECM provide an additional security. The A configuration is a fire support unit utilizing a trio of LRM 15's linked to the Artemis IV system to disable targets at long range. 4 tons of ammo allows for continual firing against a variety of targets while CASE protects the interior of the mech. A pair of ER medium lasers in the left arm provide close support. The B model is a high end guerilla fighter. Intended to be dropped behind enemy lines for long periods away from supply lines it utilizes an entirely energy based weapons array which is geared to dealing maximum long range damage. A pair of torso mounted Large Lasers are backed up by standard PPC's equipped with the advanced new Capacitor system. While this takes 10 seconds to charge it allows for a blast dealing 50% greater damage then a standard PPC allowing for a substantual strike when surprise is an asset. Toward that end an Angel ECM is included along with its matching Bulldog Active Probe to detect possible ambushes. Note: Two additional tons are unattributed here as no Capacitor system is in the weapons list. The C configuration Kerensky is possibly the most fearsome. This model is used primarily for close quarters combat such as canyons and city fighting and is where the TSM gives it the greatest advantage. An ECM package helps to hide the Kerensky in tight confines while the exceptional power of its ER PPC, LBX10, and paired Medium X-Pulse Lasers can deal an excrutiating amount of damage to an opponent. However the greatest weapon it carries is a massive mace in its right hand. Normally this weapon is powerful enough to crush a light mech with a single swing, however when the weapons array activates the TSM a single blow can shatter the torso armor of even a mighty Atlas. Note: an additional 2 tons is unallocated on this version above as the X-pulse style lasers and the Mace have not been added to the Solaris 7 weapons list. The final version of the Kerensky is the D model Sniper. This version carries possibly the least amount of weaponry, only a single PPC w/ Capacitor and a Gauss rifle. However it does mount, in addition to an ECM package, the new Federated Commonwealth designed Targetting computer. This allows the unit to stay hidden at maximum range before unleashing its entire destructive force against a single location on a target. Quite often this is adequate to terminate any target it encounters before its lance mates move in. Note: An additional ton is unallocated as the Capacitor system has not been added to the Solaris 7 weapons list. |
