The Tempest was created to supplement the Blackbird fighter used by the Dragon's Teeth mercenary unit. The Blackbird was designed around extreme speed, strong armor, and utilizing the pilots skill to defeat an opponent. However it was felt that its single weapon might make it vulnerable in larger engagements where more then a single opponent would be faced at a time. The Tempest was built for such a condition. At 50 tons it is slightly larger then the Blackbird and also slightly slower, however this is countered by an increase in over all armoring.
The Tempest is an ideal dog fighter. Its design and setup allows for exceptional manueverability, allowing it to fly circles around enemies literally and tearing into them with its hyper accurate array of medium lasers. In an ironic jux tu postion the Tempest which was originally meant to support the Blackbird has instead become the primary combatant in most battles with the Blackbird serving to back them up.
A recent engagement found a Dragon's Teeth Tempest pitted against a Free World's Shiva class fighter. Though outmassed by 35 tons, the Tempest was able to outmanuever its opponent at every turn, using its extreme accuracy to find his opponents weak points, destroying the fighter while suffering minimal damage. The Tempest subsequently finished off an Eisensturm in the same engagement. This brought the total defeated tonnage of opponents 135 tons greater then the Tempest itself. By any measure a significant win.
